My friend Renee & her dad had a yard sale Saturday. Since her dad is a contractor, I knew there would be something right up my alley there. I got nearly 50 spindles of different lengths for $5. A new bathroom sink for $10 and DH got a table for his router for $5.
8 of the spindles were just to short to be a railing, so I made a bench instead. SinceI had some spare 1x6's from another project, I *yes, on my own while DH was at work) ripped them down on the table saw and used the cut off saw to make them 6 feet long for the length and 16 inches long for the depth.
I used screws to put the cut off spindles on as legs and cut braces for extra support.
We used a 1/2 inch block for a spacer, so that the water will drain off, since it's going outside.
Then Bre & I painted it in a sky blue. Not bad for about $5 in wood and 2 hours of work. Now we can enjoy it all summer long.
Join the crew over at Rhoda's to see their great yard sale finds.

Amazing! So pretty--and I bow to you...you used the table saw. I'm not allowed to (for my own safety, honestly...stroke in 1994 left me with a wee bit fine motor control. I stand there and boss him around instead ;D)
ReplyDeleteI love the bench and it looks like it would be so easy to make.
ReplyDeleteOh I am totally impressed with your vision and the end result!!

I love your bench, and the color you chose is lovely! I always grab spindles when I see them. I've made 2 tables so far, and a plantstand. I have no idea what I think I am doing with the rest of them!

ReplyDeleteThis is great. I too like power tools, and have used spindles for various things besides their intended purpose. Boys shouldn't have all the fun with those tools!

ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. I have about 9 or 10 spindles that my friend gave me because they are redoing an old house and they took them off their porch. They have been sitting in the basement for almost a year with good intentions. Now I know exactly what to do with them. Thanks
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic bench you made. Love that big pile of spindles. Oh, the things you can do with them.
ReplyDeleteyou have some serious skilz!!! I can imagine all the entertaining that can be done with this....for food, drinks, plants, decor.....this is a GREAT project! :)
