For nearly three months, the girls and I have been plotting, planning, wishing, dreaming and working. They wanted to build their daddy a proper porch for Father's Day.
We shopped second hand for bits and bobbles, sewed pillows while he was working and have thumbed through more magazines than you can imagine.
We began yesterday morning. Today it was completed. Funiture has been being painted here and there, although he was none the wiser. We kept it a complete secret until late yesterday afternoon. Admitting defeat, we asked him how to frame it, just to make sure we were doing it right; but being the sweet fella that he is, he framed it for us. Then we were going to put the floor down last night to get ahead; he helped with that, too.
So, as we went to bed exhausted last night, we got up this morning to finish it off. We built railings out of yard sale bought spindles, we painted more chairs in the same $1/can white. After building a step, painting it all out, then decorating it all in one day, I was so happy with the way it turned out. Let's have the grand tour, shall we?
On the end of the bench I placed a tray to hold candles or drinks. I found it Friday at the thrift store (on HALF PRICE DAY - WOO HOO!) for $1.
The blue barn star from my kitchen looks much more at home here.
Around the rails I placed votive holders, some for citronella candles, some for regular. These creamy white ones were a yard sale find yesterday for 50 cents. The silver ones in the other pic above were also 50 cents. 5 holders, $1 - can't beat it!
