Luckily, the width burlap I had in my fabric stash was the exact size I needed for my window. I taped two pieces of cardboard together for this template.
Although I used cream paint for the first coat, I went back with black paint on top. The cream was too light, but it gave a good base for the top coat.
A simple seam at the top made it easy to slide the existing rod right onto the valance. When finished, it adds another layer of rustic charm to our shabby little cottage. And all without spending a penny out of pocket!
