So, how do we create that feeling? First step - Pillows. I have pillows in every chair & lots on the sofa, too. Not so many that you can't sit down, but enough so that everyone can have one (or two). The trick to getting guests to use them? Use everyday fabrics. I like using drop cloth canvas. Once washed it is soft & wrinkly & very durable. You can stamp it, or stencil it or write on it with a sharpie. Whatever works to dress it up and make it your own. Simple slipcovers for existing pillows can be made in minutes and they create a feeling of warmth and, well, coziness. If they look like they are used, guests will be more inclined to use them.
How many pillows do you have?
Do they get used?

I love pillows and, you're right. They DO make things more cozy. I have a fair amount but could always use more. :-)

I <3 Pillows! We have about 10 pillows for our couch alone lol. My favorite kind of pillows for our bed are feather down. LOVE featherdown pillows! :)
ReplyDeleteI heart me some pillows! Recovering a batch of them this week, actually, preparing for a few holiday get togethers and just making my little nest cozy. I too, want my visitors to feel at home when they are at my house. I want people to feel free to prop their feet up, remove shoes, sit indian-style on the ottoman, just whatever makes them feel good. It's casual, comfy decor scheme... and I can't wait to finish it and have people over!
ReplyDeleteOMGosh - (off topic) I have almost the same exact lamp in my bedroom (including the beading.) I just re-did the shade and you'll get to see it for Transformation Thursday.
ReplyDeleteI have a bunch of pillows to re-do, too. Maybe I'll get those done this week.
I have six just on my sofa! I LOVE pillows too. I am waiting for th eShabby Shop to sell the pillows! LOVE those!
ReplyDeleteOh I change my pillow covers all the time. Love how it changes the colors and mood of a room. Everyone need a pillow to feel cozy. Yours look wonderful. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteI love pillows!! The more the merrier. I have 7 in my L/R. :)
ReplyDeleteI have way too many pillows! Love your blog.
ReplyDeleteI love love love pillows. I buy old pillows. I make pillows. I decorate with pillows. I have a pillow problem. I guess there are worse problems.
ReplyDeleteOur couch was the first "new" piece of furniture that we ever bought. After 10 years of hand-me-downs. Anyway, we bought a couch and loveseat and they came with 6 pillows. At first I thought it was too much, but now I love them.
ReplyDeleteLove pillows and have way too many in assorted sizes. I'm recovering several in creamy linens and cottons this week!
ReplyDeleteGood post! I'm all about pillows. :) I just got a cozy new UGG pillow to use this winter and I'm so excited, lol.
ReplyDeleteI love pillows, although with kids I seem to be picking them up a hundred times a day. Most of my pillows I have covered or recovered myself. I machine sew them and slip stitch an opening closed so I can easily launder them and pop them back on. I just finished a drop cloth pair and a ticking pair that I will have to post soon. I agree that comfy pillows can make guests feel comfortable.
ReplyDeleteLovely! I actually don't have that many pillows right now. Not sure what happened but I think I redecorated and got rid of mine! I used to have the couch full! I have been looking for ones I like!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Lisa
I LOVE pillows! I have 14 on our bed alone. My husband totally doesn't get this. I just tell him it's a girl thing!
ReplyDeleteI have a closet full and rotate them around when I feel like having something "new"
ReplyDeleteI LOVE pillows and have a special one displayed on each bed~ and I LOVE soft comfy cozy pillows to sleep on too!
ReplyDeleteI like your ideas for pillows. I tend to think of pillows only in terms of decorative accents, but to tell the truth we really use them. Our favorite places to sit have pillows. Hmmm. Thinking I could use some more. Thank you for the inspiration! Of course, I'm always inspired when I come here!!
ReplyDeleteYour pillows DO make me want to snuggle one! I usually find them annoying and want to toss them somewhere-but where when you are on someone else's sofa? So at home, we have one on each end of our sectional, and a group of 3 plopped in the corner of it. The only reason I tolerate so many is because they are all down or feather! AH! LOVE IT!
