Making a book shelf

Welcome once again to Transformation Thursday! It's the one day of the week we all get together to celebrate getting stuff done. No matter if you've been coming around for quite a while or this is your first time, everyone is welcome to share their projects, big or small. Just link up at the bottom of this post.
Used books are so beautiful and can be found for so cheap, I use them all over the house for decorating. Whether putting them under lamps or as props, or even to make book shelves. Wanna learn to make one?
You'll need a few books, one that will be cut & used, and a couple of more to put on top that won't get damaged. You'll also need corner brackets, an exacto knife, an ink pen & a screw driver.
First pick the book that you're going to cut/screw into. Put the bracket in between the back cover and last page, then mark it on the spine and on the inside cover.
Next open it up and mark the shape of the bracket on the pages and on the inside cover, then mark the holes for the screws. Use your exacto knife and mark an X in the marks for the holes.
It's easier than it looks - just cut on the lines you traced,
cutting a few pages at a time until you have it just right.
Cut out enough pages to make the bracket flush once the book is closed.
Put the bracket in the hole, then use a hand screw driver (a drill works too fast) and screw into the cover, through the bracket and into the pages.
Open up the top cover and a few pages to screw the other side of the bracket straight to the wall.
Add a couple of books on top to cover the rest of the bracket and you've got a cute little book shelf!
Total for project: Brackets - $2.57 for 2; books - free from my yard sale pile

Soooo.... whatcha got? I wanna see and so does everybody else! Just put your PERMALINK into the linky, and please link back here so everyone can find the great ideas. DO NOT link to an Etsy shop, online store or other selling venue. Be sure to say hi to your neighbors - it is a party after all. Welllll..... let'er rip, tater chip!

Oooo great! I love to see how other people are decorating their cottages.

    *sees entry on book shelves*

Wonderful! With over 10,000 books I can always use more bookshelves.

    *reads*

Wait. I must be mistaken. You're -- destroying books?

    Books?

    *runs away in absolute horror*

  32. I loved this idea so much that I was inspired to try it myself! Yours turned out MUCH better, but I still love mine and maybe I'll continue making them until they're perfect. Thanks for posting!

P.S. I love books SO much but I didn't feel bad about destroying my beloved copy of Pride and Prejudice because I'm going to buy another copy!
