Day 30: spray paint something

If ever there was a magic potion in decorating, it would be spray paint. Spray paint can make anything change almost instantly by waving your hand. Need convincing?

Want to start small? Try spray painting your door knobs. For less than the cost of one set, you can probably make over every knob in your home. That’s big bang for your buck! Infarrantly Creative has all the tips on how to do it, straight from the pros.

Are you looking for that catalog look on a dime? Myra at My Blessed Life took a discount store oriental garden stool and gave it a coat of white spray paint (you know, the botox of the decorating world?) She saved a cool $130 per stool. Ohhh yeah!

Just want to give a quick makeover to a thrift store find? It’s perfect for that, too! Pretty Handy Girl took a Habitat lantern and made it look blue-ti-ful!

Need a little more convincing? Probably not, but just in case, check out this makeover from Centsational Girl. Spray painting small pieces of furniture can be much faster and cheaper than painting with a brush – especially chairs.
So if you’re thinking that your red side table doesn’t go with your new space… just wave your hand and it will magically be transformed.

  1. I just spray painted the chandelier we picked up in Germany when I was a girl. The gold plating had/was worn off and it was looking a bit peaked so now it is a lovely shade of oil rubbed bronze. Today I’ll hang all the crystals back on and decide if we are going to hang it in the family room. It might be a little too fancy but I really want to hang it. It brings back such fond memories and we had it hanging in every rental we lived in when I was a kid!

  2. Oh, the power of spray paint! I’ve been in love from the first can! Seriously, it’s the duck tape of DIY-ers, the universal fix for ANYTHING that doesn’t look right! I’ve made over SO many thrifted finds to fit my home & style. I think my husband’s afraid I’ll spray paint him if he sits still for too long! (he’s safe though– cuz he looks just fine ;) )

  3. Thanks so much for the shout out Gina, spray paint is magic in a can! xo Kate

  4. Oh my gosh, for once, there is something on here I have DONE! I just spray-painted with Krylon a thrift store lamp for two dollars to match a 2.00 Christmas shade I found at another store! It looks great, saved a lamp (and a shade) and I have a nice Christmas accessory to use! I love Krylon!

  5. god I love spray paint. that is all. :)

  6. Great series, I just became your latest follower and clicked through all 30 days in one sitting…very nice advice for everyone that gets caught up in “the my house is not as awesome as your perfect “blog” house” or overwhelmed by Pinterest and all those ideas we all know we’ll never have time to actually do! But, we all love to dream and be inspired. I too love spray paint, it’s like magic potion for us DIYers;)

  7. I love spray paint – so easy to use and make over something. The only thing I don’t like is when I get the paint on my hands. :-( I should probably wear rubber gloves.

  8. So right Gina!!!

  9. Did my first spray paint project today….painted purple stripes on a pumpkin! It turned out cute!

  10. I love spray paint. Just finished spray painting a craft pumpkin ivory since all the white ones in the store were sold out. I also just painted a vintage (meaning “ugly”) brass floor lamp with the oil rubbed bronze and in about 20 minutes had a beautiful new accessory!! Yay for spray paint!!

  11. I was planning on brush painting a large shelf for plates, an idea, spray paint!! It would be a lot faster. Kay
