Day 31: staying inspired {with a giveaway}

All month long we've talked about how to embrace your space, where you are with what you have. It's been just as inspiring for me as it seems to have been for you. I've loved all your comments, tweets, emails, and messages - sharing your journey to contentment that I've been taking along with you. I'm honestly always amazed when I find that there are others out there with the same struggles that I have, because from the outside looking in, we see the perfection of others and compare it to our flaws. We've taken this entire month to explore all of those feelings, and hopefully I've inspired you just a little to make your home exactly what you want it to be.

Inspiration can come from a million and one places in our high tech world: Pinterest, blogs, Facebook, Instagram, magazines, and my favorite of all... books. When you find a book that you connect with to the core, then it becomes a part of you. Maybe it's a work of fiction, an autobiography, or it might just be a decorating book. No matter which kind of literary work it might happen to be, when you do find that one book that inspires you, it's like a nugget of gold.
My sweet friend Marian, or you may know her as Miss Mustard Seed, recently wrote a gorgeous book that's one of those kind for me. Although there are a few tutorials, it's mostly the story of her home and how she made it hers on a shoestring budget.

She's been such an inspiration through her blog for years, but there is something so tangible about holding an actual book in your hands with her ideas that makes it come to life even more. Between her love affair for painted furniture and her use what you have spirit - it's an attainable and affordable look that anyone can achieve.

No matter if you love her signature look with the chippy vintage vibe, or if you're just looking to learn more about how to embrace your own personal look - this book is a winner on all levels.

Speaking of winners...
one of you will win a copy of her book, Inspired You!
I'm so excited to be offering a giveaway for one of my lucky readers, so that you will be inspired to keep on learning more and more about embracing your space.

To win, just leave a comment telling me what inspires you.
Maybe it's your favorite blog, vacation spot, or that shop you go to over and over again.

The fine print: Inspired You was provided to me as a gift of the author. I was not compensated to do a review or host a giveaway - I'm really excited to share the opportunity to win a copy of this inspiring book. Winner must be over 18 and a US resident. Void where prohibited. Giveaway ends Wednesday, November 7th - winner will be contacted via email.

  6. I am always inspired by other DIY bloggers, especially ones that break out the power tools and build things themselves. It motivates me to stop wishing a make a difference in our house. Great giveaway. MMS's book is on my list of reads!

  7. I find my family inspirational. I can "pin" all kinds of images for home ideas, but when it comes right down to it, every change that I make is inspired by wanting a home for our authentic selves.

Thanks for the chance - - this book sounds like a fabulous read!

  11. Lovely giveaway - it looks like a 'must read' book for those of us who love to create on a tight budget! I'm inspired by my desire to make our home a place of simplicity and quiet beauty, a sanctuary for our family and a place of welcome for friends who visit. I rarely get out to shop, but there are a few local stores that really get my creative juices flowing ... I rarely buy anything but instead go home wondering how I can re-create the object of inspiration with inexpensive items or things I already have.

  12. I have to admit one of the things that inspires me is an old Pottery barn book.. but more importantly my Mom and Grandma. Maybe I should say those are the top of my list but the list really is quite extensive.... :) so mom, grandma, books, blogs, travels abroad...

    Thank you for this opportunity!!

  13. I am inspired by color wherever I find it. It could be from anywhere. My favorite inspiration is the mixtures of color, texture, and pattern in nature.
I'd love to win an actual book. Love the Internet but holding a book, touching and turning the pages, and being able to return to the same page later cannot be beaten. Can you tell I was a librarian?

  15. Well of course MMS inspires me and I would be beyond thrilled to win...

What really inspires me is children... the wonder and excitement over the smallest details. The way they don't take everything so seriously... even in decorating I need to remember this! Don't be so serious and take a risk every now and then, with paint or a new rug...etc.

  16. I'm still figuring out what inspires me! For so many years, I've cared more about function than form... now I want both. After 15 years of marriage, I am finally refusing to just use what we've always had. I have found that I am most inspired by eclectic looks. With that in mind, I have been collecting things that "speak to me." We'll see how it goes!

  24. I've stumbled on your 31 day challenge this afternoon... I would say it was by accident but I think it was, in reality, fate. See, we moved into our first house this summer and I have been on a tear trying to get it decorated 'just so'. My husband confronted me last night saying (gently) that we need to trim back a bit on the expenses. Learning to love where you live is what I needed to do today. My biggest inspiration is my family and it's for them that I will learn to love my space (and tweak it when I can!) Thank you!

Books are great for this so I thank you for the giveaway!

  50. I lost a great job in 2008 due to company consolidations and I've been floundering ever since. I felt so lost. In January of this year I discovered blogs (yours, Miss Mustard Seed, and a host of others). Along with these blogs came inspiration and lots of it. I started my own blog, I've been repurposing just about everything I can get my hands on, and just this month, I rented a booth in a local shop to sell my repurposed items. It's people like you, who paved this road before me, who inspire me the most.

I am inspired by all the wonderful things I see and hear about--bloggers, of course, sharing their creativity and talents, and people who are working to help others, such as firefighters, teachers, military, law enforcement, medical people, ministers, etc. With the aftermath of Sandy, there are a million stories that inspire and give hope. I guess the bottom line is that it is people, of all kinds, who inspire me, people who share, whether it is the work of their hands, or the love in their hearts.
