My First Milk Paint Experience

There's a lot of things that I love about being a blogger, but hands down the very best part is the friends that I have made. It's always fun to get to know someone online, but then meeting them in person just brings a whole new level to your friendship. Miss Mustard Seed is one of those friends that I love dearly, and we've been friends nearly as long as I've been blogging. So when she asked me if I'd like to try her new paint, I was all like.... "Uhhh.... yeah!"

 Of course, when you're trying new paint, you've gotta have something to actually put the paint on. I knew from her wonderful tutorials that the intended look is to revive an old piece of furniture that's worn in a bad way into something chippy and worn in a good way. I found this side table at Goodwill for $5. Score! And happily enough, I needed a new side table for my living room. Win/Win.

 The instructions for the paint say that if you mix in bonding agent it will help it adhere to the furniture with no sanding. Sah-weet! I cleaned up the table (and removed the price tags, of course), then went to mixing up my paint. I went by the directions on the packages to make sure that it was mixed properly.

 

 I will forewarn you... it takes a while to mix the powder into the water. Like at least 5 minutes. Just when you think your arm is about to fall off it will be ready, but I promise all that extra work is well worth it.  The paint goes on pretty thin, and my table took about 3 coats. It's unlike any other paint that I've used, but I really, really love the results. {This color is Ironstone.}

 It sands off beautifully where you want to distress it, but the bonding agent makes it adhere pretty well, so if you give it several coats you're probably not going to get it back off again.

 On the main flat surface, I only used two coats and I was able to get some of the chippy look that I wanted. Once I was happy, then I sealed it with her wax. That stuff is like butter. Seriously, seriously good stuff. It's my favorite part of her new line (although it's all amazing stuff.)

I love, love, love how my table turned out. It took no more or less time to paint than any other paint. but the look is just different in a way that's kind of hard to show in photos. After you sand it all down and get it waxed, it's the smoothest paint finish I've ever done. I just wanted to rub it over and over because it was soooo smooth.

I'm *this* close to finishing my living room, and I can't wait to share it with you during my stop on the Jennifer Rizzo Holiday Housewalk this Wednesday! Now I gotta go finish fluffing so I can be ready to strut my stuff :)
