Coming clean: the ugly truth about painted floors

Here's a not so secret fact about me: I'm a horrible housekeeper. Seriously. My floors don't get mopped near enough, windows rarely get washed, and have I ever mentioned that the only reason we have clean laundry is thanks to Mr. SCC? Yeah, I'm not so great at cleaning. So when HomeRight asked me if I'd like to test a SteamMachine, I was a little worried.

I mean, y'all know me... and y'all know that I'm not going to voluntarily clean. But, then I remembered my sad looking painted porch, so I agreed to try it.

Here's the ugly truth about my beloved aqua paint: During the summer, I clean it every day - and I actually like doing it! It's cool and refreshing and almost like playing in a wade pool. I get out there and spray it down and clean it up without a whimper.  After a long, wet, icky winter-ish (because living in the south means you get like 4 snowflakes all season) - that pretty porch ain't so pretty.

See all that grime? Remember this is a judgement-free zone, m'kay? The mess above was dirt that was ground into the paint. I actually mopped it just the day before because I couldn't bare to stress y'all out with the full throttle mess of it all. You're welcome.

I knew that if the SteamMachine could handle that mess, then it could absolutely, positively, without a doubt handle anything. Yeah, it was that bad!

And, with a little fear that it couldn't handle my mess, I tried it. And it worked. Be glad you didn't show up to my house later that day, or I would have bragged all about my clean porch. I was blown away at how well the SteamMachine worked. Ask my family :)

About an hour later, I had a clean porch. That image above is not Photoshopped. It's the real deal, yo!

After the fabulous results on the porch, I steam cleaned everything in sight... windows, doors, walls, I even threatened the cat. If it stood still and I thought it could take the heat, it got steamed. {It also removes wallpaper, but I don't have any wallpaper to remove, so I missed the boat on trying that.}  I almost became a clean freak.... almost. Then I took a break and got over it.

Legal: HomeRight.com provided me with a SteamMachine for review purposes. All words, ideas and opinions are my own.

  16. Where to start. I also do not clean like I should but I think I would start with the living room carpet. We have toddlers and we are nearing the end of potty training I hope. Lets just say it hasn't been an accident free time in our lives. I am so tired of scrubbing in carpet cleaner.

  17. Are you sure I didn't write this post? At least the part about being an overly-relaxed housekeeper and having a grungy porch? I intended to clean the porch LAST spring, but it never happened. So now it is so dirty (along with all the railings,) that I may just have to move out-of-state.

  18. My entire mobile home! I moved my family of 6 from a nice urban home to country living and squeezed them into a two bedroom trailer. Four years later, I still didn't get the house built and we have now moved back to the city to take on a new career opportunity. The property (and abused trailer) remains in our possession. Yippie! Problem...after hating the trailer all these years, I'm now faced with polishing it up and keeping it as my getaway. Oh my. What a challenge!

  101. Well, I would most likely leave my poor 17 y/o old cat alone....although I'm sure she could probably use a little cleaning being so ancient (vintage?). And my dog would probably enjoy a little spa day with that sweet machine....but I would most definitely use it on my tiled kitchen floor - which I hate, but have to live with. Maybe if it was a little (ok...alot) cleaner, I may like it a little better. lol

  155. What an impressive machine. I could certainly put that to use. After some thought, I decided the first thing I would clean is my neighbors entryway which is about 12 feet from my front door. They don't believe in sweeping, wiping up spilled sodas etc. They may not care but it would sure make me happy to see a clean area each time I opened my door!
Thanks for the opportunity to win.

  156. Please pick me... I've got a 2 story foyer with 2 layers of wallpaper that needs to be removed!! Seriously, I just did a post about it a couple of days ago...go look at my site: pendrasplace.blogspot.com We've just bought a house and it has woodgrain tiles on the whole lower level that needs to be cleaned... all 2400 sq. ft. of it! I'd rather be crafting, sewing or decorating, in other words, I REALLY need this and I think I'd use it...everywhere!!

  164. Oh dear lord you had me at "removes wallpaper"! That would be the FIRST thing I would want to try, then the tile floors in the bathroom (where the offending wallpaper resides). We just bought this home and are installing wood floors....Oh yeah, I could and would use this bad-lad.

    P.S. Thanks for the chance.

  169. The first place I would clean would be my bathroom floors! The previous owners installed a rough, slate-like tile that is so difficult to clean - I long for the day we replace them. Until then, this steam cleaner would be fantastic!

  170. I would clean my parents tile floors. I clean for them at least monthly. They live in a house we purchased when ours burned and was being rebuilt. My mom is unable to do the mopping and cleaning in depth any more and the grout lines are especially dingy in the kitchen and baths. I have used various products and so far none have given me the satisfactory results I am seeking. I just don't have the time to scrub them with a toothbursh each month with caring for my parents and my family. I would then proceed to clean my tile and hardwood floors and area rugs at my house and my parents. Thanks for the demo....would love to try it out! Blessings!

  176. Okay . . . I don't only want this steam machine . . . I need it! Seriously, living in the Pacific N.W., we get day after day of gray mistiness. I walked out onto my upper deck yesterday to shake out a rug (yes, I was cleaning instead of crafting!) and noticed that the deck was GREEN! GREEN MOLD! Yuck! I think I am living in serious danger everytime I walk on that deck and track the mold spores back into my house. Yes! I NEED a steam machine for sure. Patti@OldThingsNew

  180. I'd start with my Mum's carpets, but then I'd do the bathrooms, lino floors, the windows (especially the sliding glass doors) and the oven. I borrowed one from a friend when I moved out of my apt. last summer and they ARE wonderful! Even did my frig. They are so fast and easy to use, too. Thanks for the chance to win. ~ Linne

And the black in the sliding door grooves? How am I suppose to get them perfect again? Yes, this would be a wonderful cleaning tool.
