Since the paint was still wet, I took as much as possible off with a wet cloth, scrubbing off all the paint that was on top. But, since I painted raw wood it was deep into the grain. At that point, I figured I could keep going and find a solution, or Mr. SCC could build a new top. The solution seemed like a better choice, since I really didn't want to have to confess my mistake. Sigh.
After I took off all the paint, I lightly sanded it all down, let it dry, the stained right over the top of the grey-washed wood. Although I typically wipe all the stain off after just a few minutes, I left it on much longer than normal, so hopefully it would offset all the greyness of it all. And it worked. Whew! After being so upset over the paint debacle that I was nearly in tears, I was ready to jump for joy once it was all dried, poly'ed and finished.
So are you screaming... "JUST SHOW ME THE BATHROOM ALREADY?" Well I'll grant your wish... on Monday :) I've gotta say it's my favorite space in our home so far, and totally worth the wait!
