Progress on the bathroom

After weeks of a near stop, finally there’s some progress to report in the bathroom – yay! The floors are down, the trim is up, and it’s looking pretty good (if I do say so myself.) We’re inching closer to the room reveal finish line, but there’s still a little left to do before we get there. The before and after on this room is going to be epic – this very well may be my very favorite room that we’ve redone so far. It’s been a painfully long process, but as with most things in life – it will be well worth the wait.

Of course, I’ve learned a few lessons, too. Like if you have any tiny idea that the ceiling needs painting, do that first. Yeah, we like learning things the hard way. After everything else was already finished, we had to cover it all so the ceiling could get a fresh paint. Ahhhh… the joys of DIY :)

I shared the floors on Instagram & Facebook, and got lots of questions about them. We did these just like our kitchen floors. This isn’t the last you’ll see of this flooring, since I love the way they feel, and my obsession with Jacobean stain just won’t seem to die.

Now that the walls and floors are all in order, we’re hoping to get it all finished out pretty soon. There’s a vanity left to build, some plumbing to be done and a new light to install – you know, the parts that actually make it function as a bathroom.

We were stalled so long due to budget issues – but a great trip to the ReStore saved us. Instead of spending $200 on fixtures, we scored a toilet and sink for a total of $15. And that’s why I love that place!

Weather permitting, we’re building the vanity this weekend…. so I’m hoping that the rain holds off so we can get it built. If not, there’s always next week. Either way, we’ll get it done one day… hopefully :)

  2. I love your new flooring, what kind of wood did you use? I so wish we had a restore nearby, you are so fortunate. Years ago I redid a bathroom and needed toilet, vanity, and sink. I waited a while, like you due to budget problems and finally found all listed in a classified ad, I paid 25 for all three. A simple coat of white paint on the vanity tied it all in and it was gorgeous.
