mercury glass vase with chevron stripe

Mercury glass vase collections are so pretty, yet all of the ones you can find in the store tend to look the same after a little shopping around. This chevron mercury glass vase is puts a trendy spin on the traditional look, while still keeping all the sparkle and shimmer of mercury glass. An easy DIY project, you’ll be shocked to see just how simple it is to make your own mercury glass vase.

This project features Krylon’s looking glass spray. If you’ve never used it before but had no idea what to do with it – then you’re in luck! A few of my fellow bloggers are joining in to share some ideas, including my friend Laura from Finding Home and the fabulous Sarah M. Dorsey.

My project uses Looking Glass spray, along with a clear glass vase with straight sides and some chevron shaped tape, along with some regular painter’s tape.

Start by using the chevron tape on the sides of the vase all the way around.

Then, use regular painter’s tape to seal of any parts of the vase you don’t want painted (like the foot of my vase.)

Next, use the spray and give the vase 5 to 7 light coats of paint. Once coated well, let it dry for several hours before removing tape.

Once your vase is finished and dry, then you can easily turn it into a centerpiece by adding a pillar candle (or three votives) and fill it in with some regular kosher salt. Easiest DIY centerpiece ever.
