Seeing dreamy space in magazines is a love/hate kinda thing for me. I love to look at them, yet hate to think about how much money it took to create that look. After getting so many sweet comments about our eat in area in our kitchen, I wanted to share how to get this look (and for much less money than you’d think!)
This is one of my favorite spaces in my house. First, I eat every meal with my family here. Second, the color makes me happy. Third, it’s comfy.
It took quite a while for me to get to the final result, but it was so worth the wait.
I started with the light from Home Depot. I’ve had them a couple of years now, and they’re well worth the $30. I also have one over my kitchen island. The electrical part wasn’t in the right place, so I just used the long cord that it comes with and swagged it over to where I needed. No big repair needed.
I made the grommet curtains (no big surprise there!) and installed them with this curtain rod from Lowe’s. I like the contrast of the black rod on my almost white walls.
My major confession is the rug: you can’t buy it any more. {Please don’t throw things at me!} However, if you’d like an alternative, this is a great option from Target for only $129.
The biggest expense in the space was the LIATORP table from Ikea. At $279, it’s not super expensive, but it’s not really cheap either. I looked high and low for a second hand option, but finally gave up and went with this one. Although we did have to assemble it, there wasn’t any painting or mess, and in about 20 minutes it was ready to go. Worth every penny.
One of the biggest steals in the space was finding these aqua folding chairs at Target for only $13 each. We bought extras for company and love the fact that they’re so easy to put away or pull out as needed.
Last, but most certainly not least, is my number wall. It’s hands down my absolute favorite thing in my whole house. I’ve collected the numbers at my favorite haunts like Southern Accents, and even new places, like I found in New Olreans at HRault Hardware.
I’ve got tons more kitchen goodness to share in the next few weeks (because we’re talking a LOT of projects, peeps!)
If I missed something you’d like to know about, leave a comment and I’ll catch it there 🙂

I love this. I just re-did my bathroom in the same colors (aqua was a little softer than yours). I see your beautiful rug isn’t available anymore, BUT I found a gorgeous washable wide gray/white stripe at HomeGoods for $19.99!

I can see why you love this space! It is so comfy and cheerful looking! Love the blue chairs! I have metal chairs we pull out for extra seating but they are a boring brown….I’m seeing a paint job in their near future. 🙂
Beautiful space – and done inexpensivly too! Thanks for sharing!

This is not my style at all, which is more traditional, but I LOVE your room and especially the cute curtains! We are thinking of buying a winter home in Florida and I think it should be my style there! I can see why the number wall is your fav thing. Wouldn’t it be cute to buy the numbers of every address you’ve had in your marriage? I have been married for 40 years so that might be alot!

I love this space! It is one of my happy spaces on the internet, I look at it to cheer me up. Those chairs, those curtains, the table… Well, you can see, I love every little bit of it!

Looks awesome, Gina! I especially love the curtains and the number wall. And those folding chairs were a steal! I love folding chairs at a kitchen table. Years ago I had an old, terribly ugly plastic table. I put on a red and white checked tablecloth and placed red folding chairs around it and presto! Not nearly so cute as yours, but all in all it looked darling and was so easy to use. And the great thing is that folding chairs are always useful to have on hand. I haven’t used mine in the kitchen in awhile, but I still have the chairs in the attic and they come in so handy!

Looks wonderful! Calm and eye pleasing. But I must say something about the IKEA table: I’ve had it for about two years and it’s definitely not of high quality. Every small damage on its surface turns into a giant mountain of whatever it is made of. In other words: it doesn’t age gracefully. The fact that I have three little children running around didn’t really help. Do you cover the table while eating on it?That might be a solution.

That’s good to know! We don’t have little ones any more, so we’re pretty easy on furniture – but now I know not to cry if mine gets dinged!

Love this room! The colors are awesome. And I LOVE the number wall. How did you hang them up? What did you use? Thanks!
Nancy

They’re just house numbers, and I hang them with the screws they come with – easy peasy!

Hi Hannah,
It’s from West Elm, but unfortunately it’s been discontinued. You can buy super cute ones at Ikea for pretty cheap though!
