Do teenagers ever really have enough organizing? Especially girls. First there’s the clothes, then the shoes, then the make-up, then the jewelry, and the list goes on and on and on…. My 16 year old daughter had some major clutter issues going on, so we decided to go through her things and find a few easy solutions to help her keep her space neater (well, as neat as a 16 year old can get).
Hello before picture. Not as bad as it could be, but it definitely could use a little improving. To find easy solutions for her to organize her stuff so she could actually find what she has, we opted for an array of Command™ Products.
For this makeover, we used….
- Command™ Quartz Key Rail– this project used one
- Command™ Clear Jewelry Racks – this project used two
- Command™ Jewelry and Scarf Racks – this project used one
- Command™ Quartz Spring Clips – this project used eight
- Command™ Clothes Hanger – this project used one
- Command™ Medium Wire Hooks – this project used two
Start by assessing what organizing problems you need to address – this project tackled my daughter’s small items such as hats, belts and jewelry. Determine where on the wall you plan to hang the items and follow all surface prep instructions on the back of the packaging. This project took advantage of wall space around her desk.
Following package instructions, adhere two Command™ Wire Hooks to hold hats and a keepsake masquerade mask. Below that, adhere one Command™ Quartz Key Rail to organize other items such as belts, headphones, student ID badge, etc.
NOTE: Be sure to leave enough space underneath the wire hooks to allow for proper stretch-release removal.
To create additional closet space and make more room for everyday items, follow package instructions to adhere one Command™ Clothes Hanger on the back of the door. Use the hanger to hold larger, bulkier items such as a prom dress or up to seven wire or three plastic hangers.
On the opposite side of the wall above the desk, follow package instructions to adhere two Command™ Clear Jewelry Racks for lightweight bracelets, hoop earrings and rings. Below the clear racks, mount one Command™ Jewelry and Scarf Rack to hang longer necklaces and scarves to create an organized, decorative jewelry display.
NOTE: Be sure to leave enough space underneath each rack to allow for proper stretch-release removal.
To hang posters or banners in the center of the wall above the desk, follow package instructions to adhere Command™ Quartz Spring Clips to the wall surface. This way, you can easily change posters without any damage left behind.
NOTE: Be sure to only hang lightweight items within the weight restrictions of the product such as mail, greeting cards, coupons and posters.
With just a little effort, we turned her cluttered room into something that reminds me of a stylish boutique store – and what teen girl wouldn’t want to live there? Now she has a space to put everything away… but getting her to actually do it is another story all together.

I just used command hooks (small) in the dead space behind my sons door. Now all his ball caps are an functional art piece. Some addition great ideas in this post.
Oh, and that aqua post (wiping drool off key board)
