  1. Gina,
I’m thrilled for you! I met you when you started the Shabby Chic Cottage, and watched it shoot to the top. I love your theme “A whole lotta cheap! Blogging is hard work, but so much fun!

  2. I wished I had been able to do that when my kids a were young and at home. But then we did not have the internet, I was not an artist painting and making some spending money on that or a part time photographer doing weddings and senior class pics. Would have been nice. Congrats on a job well done.

  3. Gina, I just found your blog recently and love it. Also ordered the cutest pillow from you and thank you for that, too. I know you are busy running a business with your blog because I am on here all the time just doing my blog and figuring out the next post. Only been at it almost four weeks, but it seems like it has been much longer. Great friendly people in blog land and I love it. Have a great weekend!…..Kim

  4. I’m so happy for you. I love your blog, and I’m glad it brings you happiness and allows you to stay at home! Especially since that is what you want!
take care, keep up the good work, but remember to take some time for yourself!

  5. I’m so glad that you have been able to accomplish a dream. I too work full-time outside our home but I am fortunate to be home each day by 3pm and have summers off. Even with my schedule, getting a single post together can take an hour or more, and that doesn’t include the project time. From this comparison I can see how you must spend many hours each day to keep your great blog and business going.

I’m trying to decide in which direction to go to make a little extra cash and it encourages me to know that with some determination it can happen. Thanks for your great blog.

  6. Oh, Gina… You are fabulous! Congrats on being home! I know how much hard work you put into your blog!

  7. That’s wonderful that you were able to accomplish your dream and even more wonderful that your kids have their mom at home:) Keep up the good work!!!

  8. What a wonderful thing you have created! And being creative really is hard work! But fun work, and that is the best kind. 🙂 Congratulations on all your success Gina!

I’m jealous, I still have a 8-5 job, I dream of working from home one day too.

  12. I would love to be in your shoes. Someday. I am just now starting and have NO CLUE how to do all that you do. Where does one start?

  13. I am inspired…to stay home is so my dream..

  14. I am hoping to make income from my blog someday as well!!!!! And stay home….. a girl can dream, right?

  15. I am so happy for you ! There is nothing more important than taking care of your family ! The Little Things

  16. I just came across your blog. They say do what you love to do and you never have to work a day in your life. You are one of those people. i am looking forward in looking through your blog and being inspired.

  17. Such an inspirational post! Thanks for sharing it!

I’m new to the decor blogging world and hope to someday get to where you are, but so far, I’m really enjoying myself (even though I’m working for free!).

  18. I remember when you first announced you were quitting your job and would be working at home by blogging. I told all my friends and family who think I’m crazy for working towards that goal.

I’ve been working at home for the last five years as a freelance graphic designer. When work got in the way of my blogging time, I would get so frustrated. Reading your blog gave me the inspiration to work towards the same thing. I’m still in the planning stage, but I hope to be launching my new site in a few months.

    Thanks for the inspiration!

  19. So great that you could make it work! But I can only imagine how much WORK it still is – juggling being a FT mama + FT blogger/etsian, etc. You’re a good juggler & your results are stunning! The little blue birds on this post LITERALLY took my breath away. Lovely!

I’d dream to follow suit – right now I’m still in the juggling mode of balancing work & trying to squeeze blog stuff in without my little family feeling the diversion!

  20. Love your blog you really are a inspiration. Contrat’s to you 🙂

  21. That is so awesome that you have found your dream job while being able to be a stay at home mom! Congrats, and love your blog!

  22. What a blessing to be able to do what you really love and make a living at it. I enjoy your blog very much and I thank you for it. Hugs, Cindy S.

  23. I’m glad you shared your story. I didn’t know the history of SCC – good for you. I’m so glad you get to be full-time mom.

  24. An inspirational story – there can be ways to stay at home…

  25. Isn’t it great to be a stay at home Mom and to conduct your business wearing whatever you want!

Congratulations on being so successful. Your blog is so much fun and I love coming here to visit.

  31. Kudos on your hard work and achievement, Gina, it is anything but luck!

  32. I am very happy that you are blessed to be doing what you want to do. And, you do it so very well. Thanks for inspiring others.

  33. I am so glad your blog make it possible for you to be a stay at home mom AND hang out with us! Keep up the good work 🙂

  34. I have done a similar thing by selling my treasures on ebay. Its been around 7 years now and I am happy to say I was able to be home with my three daughters all that time and still earn some $$
    Arent computers great?!!

  35. You are so very lucky that this is working for you. I hope that it doesn’t become too much of a job. I hope that it stays fun for you. I really enjoy your blog & your projects.

  36. That is so awesome! Being a stay-at-home mom is important to me. I hope I can start making money from my blog and photography!

  37. Thank you for sharing your story. I enjoy your blog immensely and it is nice to know your back story. I love the birds in your picture as well.
    Thanks for inspiration.

  38. I, too, was once a traveler in the 8 to 5 world, but took a road less travceled, and made soap! And here we are!

Lovely encouragment for those movimng toward the same goal.

  39. I love that you can do that! I am and have always been a stay at home Mama. Unfortunately I lack the serious skilz you have… in all areas, for making money at home. We have sacrificed a lot for me to do this job. Mostly it has been worth it..my kids are great. My husband is a hard worker and is a big supporter of stay at home Mamas. The down side, for me, is experiencing independence and knowledge in some areas of life.

Anyway, all this just to say that you’re doing something right girl! You could teach me a few things.

  40. Fairytale stories with happy endings usually have a lot of hard work in front of them. Congratulations to you on your success! It is always wonderful to read about fellow Etsians who were able to quit their day jobs to follow their dreams.

  41. Sounds like you are living the dream! Just started reading your blog, and I love it! So many great ideas! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  42. Being a stay at home Mum is the best reward ever and something you will never regret. I can’t believe how many followers you have now, that’s amazing.

  43. This is my first time finding your blog. I have just started in the blog world and aspire to make it my “job” as well. I am blessed to be a stay at home mom already and I homeschool my little guy, but I would love to be able to add income to our family as well. I’m so glad you’ve gotten to that point….I’m still dreamin’. 🙂 May you continue to be blessed. (I guess an Etsy is my next step…tryin’ to get the blogging thing down first! lol) Please come visit my blog. 🙂

  44. GIna ~ I’ve only known you a short time, but I think you are great. Such unique ideas all the time and you keep it fresh. I’m glad you found your niche here with us.

    Dee xoxo

  45. I love your blog and birdies! I scooped up vintage beach cottage beadboard that was being thrown out! I live in a 1950’s coastguard cottage
that needs help unfortunately I cannot paint uggy pine paneling because I am a renter??!!

  46. Thank you for that heartfelt post. You are great at what you do! I love your blog!

  47. Congrats on a wonderful blog. You do an amazing job sharing with all of us each week. Hope you have a successful Etsy shop. Love & blessings from NC!

  48. Congrats to you..you really deserve it! This is definitely your calling.

  49. OOOO…What a lucky woman you are!! If I could be so lucky!!

  50. Do you have any tips for others who would like to do the same thing?

(My blog at present had a different focus and now I am using it as a more crafty-focused blog with hopes to focus solely on that and change to a different domain that fits better once my domain and hosting for the current pay period are up).

I thought the land of blogs was a stupid waste of my time until I found your Shabby Chic Cottage. It is a very professional quality site and I am now completely addicted to it. I especially love your tranformation Thursdays and enjoy seeing what everyone has been doing. Your site has opened up a whole new world for me and has made my creativity flourish. Thanks for all the hours and hard work you put in. It shows and is appreciated!!

  52. I didn’t realize your “Shabby Chic Cottage” Blog was about a year old – I found you shortly after I stumbled on another blog about a year ago – I am a true blog addict now, in fact on Monday this week I created my own blog mostly to keep track of all my favorite things I find in blogland – I too started a Etsy Store and I am barely able to fill my orders for headbands as I am trapped 8-5 at work.

I am SO happy for you ! Congrats ! You really do an amazing job here and I LOVE your Etsy Store and Blog

    Cheers – Cheryl
