Let’s face it: Appliances can be boring. Especially the low end versions. Now mind you, I wouldn’t mind if someone wanted to drop off a cute Smeg fridge at my house, but that’s prolly not going to happen. But, you can make your appliances cute, and it doesn’t have to cost a fortune. That’s why I decided to add some flair with my DIY polka dot dishwasher. Say goodbye to boring, because this little girl is the queen of the kitchen. And, since it’s vinyl, it can be done faster than you can actually do the dishes.
To do your own DIY polka dot dishwasher, you will need:
Level
Yardstick or tape measure
Dry Erase Marker
Time to make: 15 minutes
First, start by cutting a sheet of polka dots on your Silhouette (or other craft machine). If you don’t have a craft machine you could also cut circles with a scrapbooking punch.
Next, it’s time to do some math. Start by making a mark on where you want the lines to be. I wanted mine to have six lines, so I started 2 inches from the top, then marked every 3 inches until I was at the bottom, which left 2 inches.
Next, take your level and using the dry erase marker, make all of those lines horizontal. Please only use a dry erase marker. And test it before you mark up your dishwasher. (Meaning, don’t hate me if it won’t come off of yours like it did mine.)
To make the dots off set in the lines, I needed two different figures. The first rows were done 5inches apart. I found the center, drew a line vertically, then measured off from there to the ends.
Then I went back and measured half way between the vertical lines and drew more lines. I made marks to differentiate the pattern. Where lines A & 1 connect was the first row, B & 2 made the second row. Then I alternated to get the pattern.
With your finger, simply rub out the cross section, put the dot in the middle and move to the next space.
That part was kinda fun!
After all the dots were in place, I cleaned up the rest of the marker and that’s it: a DIY polka dot dishwasher!
Thanks to Happy Crafters for partnering on this post. All ideas & words are 100% my own.
