Friday night fun with a friend

candy's memories Antique auctions have always intimated me a little, walking in without an idea of what you’re bidding on against a room full of folks in the know. It’s always been a dream world that I wanted permission to enter… but never found the gumption to jump into. Luckily, I have a new friend that’s got the inside scoop.

I first met Candy when I went to her shop a few weeks ago – and we’ve become fast friends. In a relatively small town, I don’t have a ton of friends who “get” this crazy thing that I do – but she gets it, and has been living a handmade kinda life for over 20 years. She really, really gets it.

When she invited me to go out with her on Friday night, I just couldn’t say no. I had missed a Blissdom meet up the day before because my dad was in the hospital – but he was home safe and sound by Friday afternoon, so I went with Candy to her favorite local antiques auction. (Sorry – can’t reveal where it is… she would KILL me! 🙂

She was so spot on! Walking in was like diving into a dream world full of beautiful old primitives and fine antiques. If I would have had unlimited funds I’d have been in trouble! The only trouble was that the place was packed, so items went for a higher price than I would have paid. Except one little lot…
IMG_4987 During the preview time, I found this pretty little tool box – filled with all sorts of junk. It looked like a crappy lot – but look at this box.
IMG_4991 Sooo chippy and beautifully worn. It made me think of my buddy Donna when I first saw it. Instant love affair. Among all the “junk” was one piece that I knew I wanted.
IMG_5002 I’ve been wanting one of these for a long, long while! And… I know just where I’m going to use it 🙂 It’ll be one of those things that has to wait for a while – but I can see my {yet to be built} pergola in my head, and this holding a beautiful candelabra in the middle. Real candles and all.
Guess it’s time for Mr. SCC to get to buildin’…

  1. oh Gina! your little “take” looks very interesting and i for one can’t wait to see what you create with the fabulous chippy shabby delight!!!!! wish i could go with you next time but the ride from NJ is a bit too long but i for one can’t wait to see your next haul!!! hugs…

  2. I can’t wait to see the end result. It will be fabulous I am sure.

  3. What a fun find. I haven’t been to an auction like that in years. Looks like you got the bargain of the day! xo Diana

  4. Auctions are soooo much fun! And, especially if you’re into re-purposing, the “junk” lots are the best. Glad you had a good time, and the box is awesome!

  5. The box lots are always my favorite. I’ve found so many very high end antiques buried in a box. Auctions are a ton of fun and I’m so glad you had a great first time experience.

  6. I’m so glad you were able to go along with me, Gina, and that you enjoyed. I’m tellin ya, it’s a disease. So, be careful or you’ll catch it like I already have. Maybe we can go again soon?? Friday night maybe.
Hey, met your daughter at the P.O. today. This sweet young girl told me to go ahead of her since she had a bag full. I looked down into the bag….and all the packages said “Shabby Creek Cottage”, so I knew she had to be your daughter. What a PRETTY GIRL….and so sweet!!

  7. I can’t wait til see what you do with these!

  8. Great!! So glad you met a kindred junking spirit!!
