The Enchanted Manor: Midnight Margaritas Hallway

Is there anything more magical than a margarita?

Maybe a midnight margarita in the Practical Magic house?

Since that house doesn’t *really* exist, because technically it was a movie set, then I guess we’re going to have to make do in my Practical Magic inspired 200 year old house, k?

Also… are you as excited as I am that they are making a sequel since Practical Magic 2 has been announced?!?

When we bought this house, this hallway was one of the spots that we were most worried about. There was a ton of mildew growing up on the wall, due to a lack of heating and cooling in the house.

Did you know that mold and mildew can form in a house without proper ventilation? Yep, it’s one of the biggest reasons why old homes decay into the condition that they do.

Our inspectors told us that was most likely the reason since there was no evidence of a leak in the roof.

Heat and air, as well as a new roof, were at the top of our remodeling priority list. Honestly the HVAC guys were inside and working on the installation as we were signing the papers to buy the house. A couple of days later the roofers showed up to put us on a new roof and by the end of week one we were warm and dry.

But, to make sure that the mildew/mold did not get any worse or spread any farther, we let it dry out for about six months before we tackled it.

Plus it took me a little while to figure out exactly what I wanted to do in here. Even once I figured that out, it took time to find the piece of furniture and to do all the work.

Finally I settled on a Midnight Margaritas theme… and I honestly prefer blood orange margaritas, so that’s what we went for.

Once we had settled on a theme, though, the shopping took weeks. Honestly, it is one of the most time consuming parts about how we remodel homes. We shop second hand, which takes much, much longer than just ordering all new stuff off the interwebs. But sourcing vintage rugs, furniture, art and doors just takes time. Lots of time.

Though, in my opinion, this house has been here for 200 years, so it ain’t in no rush. And I, myself, plan on dying in this house so I ain’t in a rush, either.

After the shopping there was a ton to do with painting and papering and painting the cabinet.

While it might not look like a scene from the movie, this space has Practical Magic written all over it… literally. And also, it is Alice Hoffman approved! The amazing creator of Practical Magic gave me permission to use her books to make this space even more magical.

🔮 The wallpaper is made of book pages from the series, and I framed not only the title pages (the “autograph” is a print copy btw), and the iconic first lines of the series.

🔮 The frog in the corner is the little guy that started my “broken frog” collection and represents the ring popping out scene.

🔮 The two birds represent a couple of things: the three pairs of sisters (the aunts, Sally + Gilly, and the two younger ones) plus it refers to the angel wings young Gilly was wearing.

🔮 All of the framed art are florals, which represent the roses that Jimmy made grow out of season. This is also the reason for the florals on the cabinet.

🔮 The cabinet is black to represent Midnight Margaritas.

🔮 The crates inside the cabinet are to represent Michael 😭

🔮 The pair of plates on the wall once again reflect the three sister bonds, but also they have birds and florals on them.

🔮 Birds throughout also represent the bird in the love spell that the sisters perform.

🔮 The “blood orange” red on the walls and in the vintage rug represents the “Blood on the moon.” But also my love of blood orange margaritas 🤭

When I tell you every tiny detail in this little space was picked to signify something in Practical Magic … I was meticulous in curating this. And I’m smitten with the results.

Thank you, my friend! I’m still trying to figure out the “marketing” part of it all and how it all weaves together, but right now I’m just having fun and letting the universe be in the driver’s seat.
