Bre’s dollhouse shelf

IMG_1109 A couple of weeks ago I revealed Bre’s room makeover, thanks to the help of my fabulous friends. Amazingly enough, the former packrat has kept her space show room clean. (I think someone switched her for another child in all the chaos.)

IMG_1122 When I shared the room, there was so much going on so fast that I didn’t show you my favorite part – her dollhouse shelf. She only requested a few things as part of her room redo – keep her desk, give her a chalkboard, and make her dollhouse easier to play with.

It took the three of us (her, Mr. SCC and me) to come up with a solution. Since Mr. SCC built this well loved (and often played with piece – notice all the missing gingerbread?), we knew it was staying. I also knew that for all her stuff she needed lots ‘o storage – and so the built in shelves were part of the overall plan. Add them together and we came up with a plan.

IMG_1119There’s plenty of room between her bed and desk to pull it out, along with all her accoutrements. My goal was to make it also neat & tidy before bedtime. Making the bottom shelf a roll out with heavy duty casters made it easy for her to pull out, then push right back into place. Trimming out the cabinet with the same baseboard as the other shelf hides the wheels when it’s tucked away.

Oh and did you notice her walls and trim are the same color as the doll house? Yep, she loves it that much 🙂

Hope you’re having a terrific Tuesday!

I love the dollhouse shelf, but the best part of this post: “accoutrements”

Beautiful word. It makes me smile. Lisa~

I love the idea for the dollhouse shelf! My youngest has one, too (that my mom made for me when I was little!) but it’s not easy to play with. I may have to ponder how we could do something along these lines.

SO happy to hear that she adjusted to her space and actually loves the “new” grown-up her!

Gina – that was just genius! Love the idea that it is on casters and little Miss can pull it out and play with it at will. The whole room is just beautiful and I bet she loves spending time in there now- xo Diana

that’s sheer genius, when I was reading I just thought it pulled out but was attached like kitchen cabinet sliders, then I saw it completely comes out to go where ever…but when tucked back in, looks like it’s built-in..

    Love it…wish I had a girl sometimes 🙂
