Free Printable Cleaning Planner

I have to be honest with you, I don’t love cleaning. So much so that generally speaking my awesome husband does the bulk of it in our house. But when that new routine started he wasn’t sure of what needed to be done and where to start, so we needed a plan. That is when I decided we needed a cleaning planner. Something to track what needed to be done, how often, and when.

Because my husband handles the bulk of the housekeeping, we needed something that he could use while he built up his habits and system. The cleaning planner turned out to be the perfect solution to the problem so I wanted to share it with you.

How to use a cleaning planner

After you print your cleaning planner out, take a few minutes to think about your natural routine. If you tend to clean the bathrooms on the weekends, go ahead and schedule those task in. Continue down the list of chores until you have your cleaning planner completely filled out.

For the monthly chores, think about tasks like changing filters, cleaning your coffee maker, cleaning your ice maker, and any other task that should be done on a consistent basis, but not every week.

How to schedule cleaning the house

Your schedule is going to depend on your family routine. If you’re out of the house at 5:30 in the morning, you probably aren’t going to be able to do much except make your bed. So think about your daily schedule then find at least 20 minutes a day to get those chores finished.

Where to start when cleaning the house

In my house, we start with these things. Our bed gets made, first thing each morning, and we pick up things that are out of place. The best way to make sure you’re getting everything is to clean off all the flat surfaces. Any place that can hold stuff, tends to hold stuff.

After that a quick clean of the kitchen. You’d be surprised how much cleaner your house will feel when your kitchen is clean. Having battled depression in the past, I always found that doing these things tended to build my momentum to continue. After the kitchen, I tackle the bathrooms and start a load of laundry.

Tools for cleaning the house

I use Grove Collaborative to order all my cleaning and laundry supplies. Basically, anything cleaning related because there’s nothing worse than needing dish liquid and running out. It’s happened to me in the middle of a snowstorm and literally couldn’t go get more.

You can set up a subscription that automatically ships your items to you, or just order things as you need them. One of the things I love is that I can adjust how often my items are sent to me (monthly, bi-monthly, or less often) and I can adjust my order before it is sent out, ensuring that I don’t run out of one item while having way too much of another.

Side bonus – Mrs. Myers products (which we faithfully use) are actually cheaper through Grove Collaborative than they are from any big box store! But they sell way more than just that.

Mrs. Myers all-purpose, dish soap, hand soap, and a two pack of my favorite sponges.
