Let’s be dramatic, shall we? I mean, if you can’t be dramatic in a dining room, where in the world should it be?!? When my friend Christal told me she wanted to go bold in her dining room, I was all in. With only $500 and a few hours of work, we took her basic, boring dining room and transformed it into a space that screams for all the attention it deserves. High contrast? Yep! High drama? Oh, yes! Big style? Mmmhmmm. Want to see more?
This is where it all started. She’d collected the furniture over the last couple of decades. Dining room suite here, never used cabinet there, even an old desk was in the room. It was an unused, pretty much unloved room that was simply a pass through to get to another room in the house.
Before we get started on all the afters, I’ve gotta tell you we spent very, very little. The only “furniture” we bought was a couple of new plant stands, other than that we used all of her own furniture.
Of course to do that, it needed to be painted, so we went to Sherwin-Williams to let the experts help us choose the right tools and paint for the various things we were doing. Armed with paint for walls and furniture, we came back and attacked everything that needed a fresh lease on life.
Because we learned the right kind of paint for furniture, we used Pro Classic on all of the pieces (makeover posts coming soon!)
We even used some leftover paint for the artwork that you see (tutorial on that coming soon, too!) The one accent wall is Black Magic (one of my favorite Sherwin-Williams colors!)
We did leave the floors and baseboards alone, because they matched and looked beautiful together. The other three walls in the space are Extra White, which is just about the most perfect white I’ve ever used.
If you’ll notice, the room looks like it’s a hot pink space (technically magenta), but honestly if you changed the drapery, lamps and repainted the chandy you could have a whole new look in just an afternoon.
Of course, dramatic drapes are my favorite. I love them forever and always.
Can I just say how much I love that the black makes all the magenta scream for attention like a rock star headed to rehab?
And that’s the entire space! With only a few yards of fabric, a lot of painting help from my buddies at Sherwin-Williams, and about 30 hours of work total, we transformed this dining room with a lot of laughs, way to many outbursts of song lyrics and even a little wine thrown in for measure.
Want to start your own makeover? Sherwin-Williams is giving away a $200 gift card to one of my readers!
To enter, simply leave a comment telling me your favorite color & the room you’d give a makeover.
Want a second chance to win? Follow me on Instagram (you can find me by searching for ShabbyCreek) & leave a comment on this post telling me that you followed. That’s it!
That’s it!

It’s almost embarrassing to admit…but i really like their bright white – no color added! I’ve painted a dresser, a desk, and two bookshelves with it. It’s the ultimate CLEAN white color! I would paint my living/dining/kitchen. Right now it’s just an off white…time for color!
Gina Luker says
Don’t be embarrassed, Jill! The walls before only had primer on them, the white was almost exactly the same as the primer color, just a better finish that’s easier to clean. My friend wanted impact, so we went with the black wall and she was so happy with it. White walls are the way to go if you want a clean look – I totally agree with that! Thanks for stopping by!

Very dramatic makeover!!! Wish you were my friend/neighbor – I’d sure pick your brain about my unfinished “empty nest” home!! The only room with finished walls is the bedroom, and our oldest daughter painted it a very dark yellow before we moved into it – UGH!! So, when I repaint (ASAP!), I’m going for either SW Faraway Blue or SW Green Glaze (haven’t decided, because I love both!). Strangely enough, though, my personal favorite color is red, but I’m just in a beachy/cottage-y mood lately!
Carol in the Land of Oz says

I would love to paint our kitchen a farmhouse white and grey. Out home is a beautiful old farmhouse that needs a little touch of love. Paint would make such a difference to the space that hasn’t been updated since around the 50’s.( we think) . We have started to make some small changes here and there as time and money allows. We plan to paint the stock cabinets white along with the beatifful wainscoting and the top section of the wall grey. Sounds perfect doesn’t it.

Carol says
I truly hate the wall colors in my living room. I bought this old fixer upper last year but I have done very little fixing. I want to start in the living room with 12 ft. ceilings and wainscoting. It will have to be in the olive green, tealy blue family.
Janet Richardson says
Love the way the furniture turned out. Wonderful job on a difficult piece of furniture I have used SW exclusively for 25 years. My favorite color is actually a custom color, the guy who mixed it called it Janet’s Tan, but it really is a soft sage. My other go to color is Liveable Green.
