Farmhouse kitchen decor is one of my most favorite things to shop for and drool over. Something about a bright room filled with classic elements makes my heart melt. As you know there are several versions of farmhouse style, but my favorite has to be modern farmhouse style.
Modern farmhouse style combines clean sleek lines of the contemporary style with a cozy farmhouse aesthetic. When used in farmhouse kitchen decor tt is best known for its warmth and simplicity.
However, being simple in style doesn’t mean being barren or empty. In fact, that would completely be the opposite of what farmhouse style is, at its core. So finding the right pieces of farmhouse style decor becomes even more important when you don’t want to overcrowd the space or have it feel hectic, or unorganized.
What is farmhouse kitchen style
Farmhouse style is typically light, bright, and airy with natural elements. Think of things like wood tables, butcher block counters, etc. Timeless farmhouse kitchens usually have white cabinets, muted color schemes, open shelving, and of course loads of charm added with the farmhouse kitchen decor.
How to decorate a farmhouse kitchen
The best place to start when decorating your farmhouse kitchen is with the big items already in the space. Take a look at your cabinets, appliances, and table. What’s the predominant color? If your cabinets are stained oak, could you paint them white? If your fridge is covered with magnets, could you move them to another place to clear out the visual noise? Remember the goal of a farmhouse kitchen is airy and cozy simplicity.
After you’ve taken a good look at your major pieces, it’s time to start looking at the smaller items in your farmhouse kitchen. What small appliances do you have out on your counters? What type of curtains, if any, do you have on your windows? The same thing goes for your light fixtures, canisters, art, etc.

Lighting
Lighting is always important, no matter your style, but farmhouse style lighting of often some of the most fun to look at and use. The utilitarian style is often unexpected and can create a great surprise when you show off your newly farmhouse’d style kitchen.

Art / Decor
Farmhouse style decor is so fun because you can either decide to make something like I did in this post here, shop to your heart’s content, or mix it up with both. Personally, that’s my favorite way to do it. Mixing it up with treasures I find and things that let me get crafty.

Cabinet Hardware
When it comes to cabinet hardware I tend to lean towards more of the pull style handle over the knob style. To me, cabinet and drawer pulls have a more utilitarian look and feel which lends itself well into the farmhouse style aesthetic. Personal preference will always win out here but love black cabinet hardware to offset the white cabinetry (or other dark styles), and the cup-style drawer pulls.

Storage
Sometimes a kitchen just lacks great storage options, which means we have to get creative. Thankfully what could be seen as a flaw can quickly turn into a way to bring in more functional farmhouse kitchen decor. Storage containers are a great way to do this. If you ever visit my house you will quickly realize that is the case with my farmhouse kitchen. To solve the problem of lacking storage and add more farmhouse kitchen charm, I used the storage solutions I created to serve both functions.

Now that you’ve got some ideas on ways to bring in that farmhouse kitchen decor charm, what’s something you’d love to see in your space?
Remember creating that simple cozy feeling that you get in a farmhouse doesn’t need to be difficult or expensive. Simple additions like lighting, hardware, and containers can bring in that warmth without breaking the bank.

Your decorations are wonderful suggestions. My kitchen is quite small, I think I will choose a few details to decorate it. I like white tones because it makes the kitchen wider.
