An inspirational quote can be the perfect idea for turning into a sign – I mean, who doesn’t love a good inspirational quote? No matter which quote you decide is the best one for your space, having the personal touch can bring more life into your space that is uniquely you. This easy project was made with scrap wood, so if you have some of that laying around you can probably make this project for next to free. It only takes a few supplies and you can turn your favorite inspirational quote into artwork.

It’s a little different than my normal signs, I started by putting scraps together with cleats on the back of the boards. Mine were left over from another project, off cuts of trim we pre-painted white. If you started from scratch, these are 1x6s that were put together with strips of 1×2 on the back.
I put two coats of a soft black flat paint on top of the white using my favorite Purdy paintbrush – I love the smooth coat that you get using them. I let it dry for a few hours before moving on to the next step.
Once it was dry, I sanded it a little with some fine grit sand paper to let the white beneath show through.
Using the same technique as my Paris Postmark Stool, I used the carbon paper method. It’s just carbon paper under the prints from my computer then I traced them to get the outline.
Because the font is an old typewriter style, it’s really forgiving since the letters don’t have to be perfect. It’s kinda like coloring, just fill in the lines with a fine brush.
