With school starting back, and with both of my girls taking college classes this year (one in university and one in dual enrollment), creating good storage to help them be organized is pretty important to me right now. Simple items seem to go missing the easiest, so I’m working to find ways to help them keep everything neat. Since I’m joining in with a few friends to give life to thrift store finds, I wanted to use something that can be found in almost any second hand store (or even your recycle bin) – a glass jar. So let’s create a pretty pencil holder from a mason jar.
For this project, you’ll need:
A glass jar
Chalk style paint
Toner printed page
Decoupage Medium
Brushes
Scissors
Start by painting the jar with a couple of coats of chalk style paint. Let dry between each coat and let completely dry before starting the next step.
Using the Minc Machine, print out the sheet of hearts on TONER paper (use a copy machine if you don’t own a toner printer.) Run it through the machine – you can learn to gold foil here. Of course, there are multiple ways to gold foil, but this machine is the easiest way I’ve found. You can find it on Amazon, or almost any craft store like JoAnn’s. Trim out one of the hearts to apply to the front of the jar.
Apply the heart to the jar with decoupage medium, covering the top well to seal it down. Let it dry and you’re done!
Need more than one? Painting different sizes and different shade would be a beautiful way to organize almost anywhere.

We won’t be back to school here till after Labor Day, but I’ve been working on the ever challenging task of organizing my son. Some kids do that naturally, and some are clueless year after year. He falls into the latter category!
these are so cute, my kids go back to school on monday.
I love the way the gold foil pops against the turquoise! I have to give it a try.
So cute Gina! My oldest daughter would love that on her desk… she adores teal!
What a fun idea. I haven’t heard of a Minc machine, but so looking into one. Thanks for joining us this month in the thrift store challenge/
