The best part of making gifts in jars is that it usually goes together super quickly. This minibar in a jar idea definitely follows suit – in just a few minutes you can create a gift for those who enjoy the occasional drink. You could even create a themed minibar in a jar if you wanted to match your wedding or event.
This project is in partnership with Happy Crafters.
To create a minibar in a jar, you will need:
- A large jar with lid (big enough to hold several small bottles)
- 5-7 small bottles of alcohol
- Adhesive Vinyl
- Transfer Tape
- Silhouette Machine + tools
Start with your jar (you can find them at any big box type store), along with your bottles of alcohol.
Next, cut your image out of vinyl (you can use the free image above by clicking on it to open it up in a new window then saving it to your computer. Once saved, use this tutorial to cut the graphic out of vinyl.)
Next, use the pick tools to peel off all the excess vinyl, leaving just the letters. Use transfer tape by putting it over the vinyl, peel off the backing and then apply it to the jar.
Working from the middle of the graphic out, use a smoothing tool to affix the vinyl onto the lid of the jar. Once it’s all down, peel off the transfer tape and you’re done!

Hi! Just wanted to leave a quick comment to say that, although I haven’t been able to comment lately (I usually read blogs while I”m up at night with my littlest baby, reading on my phone with only one free hand), I’ve remained a regular reader. Just wanted to say how much I’m enjoying your blog!

Cute idea. This would also make a good 21st birthday gift!
Amy says
Fun! Can you share what the approx. cost was to make this?
Gina Luker says
All total, it was around $25 I think (that alcohol adds up!)
Sue@CountryDesignHome says
Love this idea! I am curious what type of jars these are? They don’t look like mason jars but are very cute.
Gina Luker says
I found it in the dollar spot at Target 🙂
Jaynee says
Do you know what size the jars did you get? I’m searching for them but am unsure the size to get.
Gina Luker says
I’m pretty sure they were one gallon jars 🙂 Yup, one gallon jars!
Kym Brown says
Very cool gift idea! It would be really great for a bachelorette party as well and even less expensive since you could fill it with more “girlie” type alcohol such as Pucker and you can usually find them on the checkout counter for a dollar or less. This is a good idea for so many different occasions. Thanks!

Can I ask you approx what size jar did you use? Love this idea!
Thank you so much!
Warm regards!
Gina Luker says
I *think* it was a 1 gallon jar – you could also use the canister style at most big box stores.
Kandice says
I can’t seem to find any of these jars anywhere! Where can I find them specifically?
Gina Luker says
It’s from Target 🙂
linda says

What size liqueur bottles are those – 100ml or 200ml?
Simone says
Hi, would I be able to order 6 of these glass jars with the lid already saying “open bar” on it, from you? Please let me know if you sell them and how much. Thank you, Simone
Gina Luker says
Hey Simone, I do not sell any of the items I create, I just share how to do it with my readers like you 🙂 It’s really super easy, I give step by step instructions in the post. Maybe find a crafty friend to help you out? Good luck!
Kim says
These are great! They look perfect!
I’ll make them for you.
Brian says
What size liqueur bottles are those – 100ml or 200ml?
Gina Luker says
Hey Brian, I used the 50 ml mini sized bottles, but you can use whatever size bottles depending on how big or small the jar you have will fit 🙂
Heather says
Where did you find these cute jars?
Gina Luker says
Hey Heather, you can find them at Walmart, or Michael’s or any other big box type store. It depends on what you have in your area, but they are pretty easy to find 🙂 Good luck!
Lametria says
Hi. What is a silhouette machine and could you explain the tools you are referring to?
Gina Luker says
The Silhouette is an electronic cutting machine that hooks up to your computer. It’s about the same size as a small printer and comes with software that enables you to basically create anything and then cut it out on paper, vinyl, fabric, or heat transfer material. The possibilities are endless.

Hi Gina.
I happened upon this “bar in a jar” and it is so clever and creative. You make everything look so easy. My question is; for someone just starting to try different craft ideas and art projects but doesn’t have a ton of money to spend, what is the best quality Silhouette machine to start with. I looked on Amazon and they are $250 and up! Any ideas or brand names. I want a quality product but I don’t want to spend $300 bucks just yet. Thanks for your expertise and/or any ideas you have.
Steph
Gina Luker says
Hi Stephanie,
Just go with the beginners level Silhouette it will be just fine! I know they are pricy, there are plenty of things you can do without one. You could free hand the writing on the jars with a glass marker for example. It’s a personal choice as well as a budget choice 🙂
Tammy says
