I believe that crazy ideas are the very best kind, don’t you? And when ideas are crazy easy, well that’s even better. Which is why I decided to make my own moss wreath. I know, I know, they’re fairly easy to come by. But I love a good craft project, especially when you’re hanging with a friend and laughing all the way. So my friend Dawn and I sat down one night and had a little moss wreath making party of two.
It took two friends two supplies to make a moss wreath, both of which we found at the dollar store: a wreath form and sheet moss.
After a lot of trial and error, we finally figured out that cutting small strips of moss and wrapping them around similar to how you’d wrap ribbon around was the best option. So with a little hot glue (and a lot of care not to burn our fingers too many times), we cut and glued over and over again.
The time flew by and we had each made a moss wreath before we even realized it. Even if we did get moss every where. I used some velvet ribbon to hang them off our chairs for our winter house tour – and I love how simply beautiful the whole thing turned out.
They fit right in with the Winter in the Woods theme perfectly. Because trees and moss go together like peas and carrots. Or Forrest and Jenny. Or Dawn and I. It’s like a match made in heaven.
So the next time you have a friend in need of craft therapy, a moss wreath might be the answer.
Love the blue/green color combo—especially at Christmas!
Thanks so much Barbara!
I love this look. Doing the same thing this year.. Used the moss on a doll house for Christmas too. Merry Christmas.
Beautiful idea! Did you get new chairs? I was thinking you had metal chairs when I visited before. Happy Holidays Ya’ll
They’re from Ikea – we moved the metal chairs (but definitely still have them!)
Love these Gina. Simple but elegant. Love.

Merry Christmas to you too Bonnie!

Thanks so much Hope! And I totally agree, it would make an awesome gift! Happy New Year!
Gina, I love the simplicity and elegance of your moss wreaths. The turquoise, velvet ribbon really makes the wreaths pop and gives it that special something. I have recently discovered rubber finger protectors to use when doing hot glue projects. I found them in the same aisle as the hot glue guns and glue sticks at JoAnn Fabric. (Quite by accident, I might add.) They have been a “finger-saver”! Mine came in a pack of three. It was a great find for me.
Thanks so much Jolene! LOL, finger-saver 🙂 An ingenious invention for sure!!!
I made one of these last year, using moss and a wreath that I got at Joann’s. It turned out really nice, but also turned out to be one of the messiest wreaths I’ve ever owned. lol
I love all of the numbers on the wall. Very cool.
LOL, I hear you Carole, they are super messy, but so pretty!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS IDEA!!! Plus, the fact that it’s so INEXPENSIVE=IS SO AWESOME & SIMPLY FANTASTIC!!!
One Qquick ?;
By chance, do you recall….
Roughly, how many bags of moss from the dollar store it took in order to wrap one entire/full wreath?
Please respond ASAP!!!
Again, KUDDOS TO YOU;)))
I look forward to hearing from you hopefully, sooner rather later;)))
Take Care,
Natalie
Hi Natalie,
I am so glad you like it 🙂 It really depends on the size of the bag, they differ from store to store. I would buy at least 2 to be safe and confirm with the store that you can return it if you don’t use the second one 🙂 Good luck!
Thanks so much, Gina for such a speedy response. Additionally, I really appreciate your great suggestion. Which size wreath did you use? I have a 10” foam wreath but I’m thinking that may end up being a bit too small.
Thanks a bunch & take care,
Natalie
