Dieters beware: today’s post is too yummy to resist. My favorite thing that comes out of my grandmother’s kitchen, hands down, is peach cobbler. It’s the kind of thing that makes you close your eyes to savor the deliciousness of it all. Because she’s a million kinds of awesome, my grandma shared her super duper easy southern style skillet peach cobbler recipe with me, and I’ve been making it that way ever since. It may not be beautiful to look at, but what it lacks in looks it sure makes up for on the taste buds!
Ingredients:
FILLING
- 4 cups of fresh peaches, peeled, desseeded & diced (or you could use 4 cups of canned diced peaches – but fresh is best)
- 1/2 cup sugar
CRUST
- 1 cup of all purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup butter milk
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
TOPPING
- 2 TBS butter, cut into small slices
- 1/4 cup sugar
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a 10 inch skillet that has been buttered, put in the filling mixture and mix together, then set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, put in all of the crust ingredients, then whisk until smooth. Pour mixture over the peach filling in the skillet, then top with slices of butter scattered on top and sprinkle the whole top with the topping sugar.
Bake for 1 hour, or until top just barely starts to brown.
And, if you wanna up the ante (because that’s the best way, don’t ya know?), then serve it up while still warm with a healthy dose of good vanilla ice cream. Oh my heavens. It’s kinda shameful that something so easy would be so freaking good.
P.S. If you make this peach cobbler recipe for a potluck, don’t worry – it’s also delicious at room temperature π

Oh I love peach cobbler but never made it in a skillet how seemingly easy and looks delicious!…thanks for the recipe!
Hmmm, trying not to look too closely. I am on a tight eating regime right now, no sugar, but I am definitely going to pin this for later….I will let you know how mine turns out. Thank you, Peach cobbler is one of my favorites too. Nothing smells more like summer than a kitchen full of freshly picked ripe peaches!
Oh my goodness, this is exactly the kind of recipe I was looking for!! You read my mind. I love using my cast iron skillet. Thank you! π
Went to the store today for peaches and I will make it tomorrow. Thanks for sharing.
pinned! thanks for sharing! we should be seeing lots of Missouri peaches at the Iowa farmer’s markets soon!
Made it last night. It was AWESOME! Thanks for sharing. Two tips: 1. Use a baking sheet under the skillet. Mine bubbled over, but I had already thought it might so I was prepared. π 2. I had to bake mine an extra 15 minutes to get a nice crunchy top. I’ll definitely be making this again!
Made this twice. The first time, I followed the recipe to the letter, and it was good. The second time, I made it I decided to make a few changes, that cobbler was good too. This is a great base recipe for cast iron peach cobbler, I have recommended it to several friends. Thanks for sharing!
Love your blog-but I have noticed that all these ads seem to take forever to download. It seems to happen on others too. I just wondered if anyone else is having this problem.
Have to try this peach dessert as it is my dear hubby’s favorite.
Nina
I actually took steps today to make it MUCH faster – I hope you’ll let me know what you think π

I made this for my husband for Father’s Day, awesome recipe!
That’s awesome Debra! I am so glad y’all enjoyed it π Thanks for letting me know!
If using canned peaches, does this include all the liquid as well? Making this tonight for company.
Hi Trish,
No just the peaches for the cobbler, good luck π
I really want to make this today for my husband. However I do not have an iron skillet. Is it a must to use the iron skillet?
You can just use a baking dish or any oven safe skillet. I just love it n a cast iron skillet because that is what my Grandmother used π I hope your hubby likes it!
I made this and followed to a t. I dont know what happened.. It was in for almost an hour and a half and it was still very gooey.. Im so upset what could have been wrong
