Love all those free printables (maybe like the ones I shared yesterday?), but have no idea what to do with them? I mean, you could just frame them, and they’d look smashing… but you could also use them to make my quick and easy mounted artwork project. You can make it for about $8 (or less), and it would make a great mother’s day gift for all those southern mammas out there!
To make this project you will need:
One 1x12x2 Oak Board (found at Lowe’s)
Sandpaper
Stain (I used Minwax Jacobean)
Upholstery Nails
Printed Graphic on Cardstock (you can find this free printable here)
Optional: Sawtooth Hangers
First you’ll want to cut your board to 9 1/4 inches long. One board will do two projects. The boards are oak, so they will not cup like cheaper pine. However, if you have a pine board and want to make it, that’ll work, too! Cut the board, then sand all the edges with fine grit sand paper.
Next, stain the board and sit it aside to dry for about 24 hours. You can find fast drying stain, but I used what I had on-hand 🙂
While your board is drying, print off your image/printable onto cardstock and trim 1/2 inch off all the way around.
After the image is trimmed and the board is dry, use upholstery nails and tack it into the board, straight through the cardstock.
It sits pretty up on it’s on, or you could put hangers on the back to hang it up on the wall. So simple, so cute!

I love this idea! I just got some old wood cutting boards for free at a garage sale and I think I will use them for this project!
Cute idea. I like it more than framing the printables!
I love this idea! What a great gift and I really like it because it’s not the typical framed version!
