We all have those areas in our homes that lack attention to detail. My laundry area is definitely one of those places. Although the laundry room itself is pretty organized, the cabinet where I keep all of our necessities for laundry wasn’t quite so pretty. One day as I was going through a mountain of laundry, I finally got to the point where I just couldn’t take it any more. So I cleaned it all out and organized it with some simple solutions. Oh, and I made a stain removal chart so my family wouldn’t have to google the stains when they were doing the laundry.
This is where I started. Not so pretty, eh? And see that leftover paint? Ironically I used in the cabinet. It was on hand, cost me nothing extra, and I didn’t have to look over a dozen colors. Perfect solution. (Btw, the color is Sherwin Williams Extra White.) I gave the entire inside a fresh coat of paint and it looked a million times better with just a bit of paint.
After I painted the cabinet, I used containers & baskets I already had to hold detergent pods and laundry booster powder. I grouped together stain removers in one basket and ironing needs in the other. Why there was so much extra crap hanging out in that cabinet, I have no idea. Most of it was trash/donate to begin with. I guess out of sight out of mind.
Because I try to use every inch of our home, I used the inside of the doors with the help of Command™ products.
I hung up the printable stain removal chart (found below) by following package instructions to adhere two Command™ Quartz Spring Clips next to each other on the inside of a cabinet door.
Want the stain removal chart? Just click on the image above to open in a new page, then save it to your computer for printing.
On the other opposite cabinet door, I put up a Command™ Clothes Hanger, following package instructions, and used the hanger to corral unused extension cords (perfect for using with an iron).
Just a few simple changes made a big impact. It doesn’t really help the dread of tackling the laundry, but it does make it a little nicer when I open up the cabinet. Because everything was on hand, this was a no money makeover – and isn’t that the very best kind?

Yes, no money makeovers are the best! My laundry room definitely needs some attention.. I need all the inspiration I can find for getting laundry done. Or laundry mountain as I call it!

Gina, that looks lovely! Unlike a few of my friends who have actual laundry *rooms* (and large ones, at that), I have a laundry area in the garage. And I was just thinking it needed sprucing. Great ideas!

i read somewhere that if you paint a place you don’t like to be a happy color, it will give you a better attitude about being there. my happy color is pink so when we bought our new house i convinced my husband to paint the laundry room pink. ok, i still hate to do laundry, but i LOVE my new laundry room.

I agree with that Sandi!
