Summer Tour of Homes: feature of House No. 214

Today’s tour includes an amazing home I found on Instagram, yet she doesn’t have a blog – so I offered to host the tour here on my blog because I knew you’d love it! If you’re popping over from Decor Adventures, welcome!

I was honored when Gina asked me to join the summer tour of homes. I truly appreciate the opportunity and want to thank her for the invitation. My name is Melinda and at the moment you can find me on Instagram @houseno214. I offer styling services which you can learn more about by emailing me at houseno214@gmail.com. Whether you need help finding the perfect pendants for your kitchen or styling an entire room I will work within your budget to create a timeless space.  A little about myself and home. My husband, three children and I have lived in our 1940 home for the past fifteen years. It has been our one and only home and most people that know me would say I will never leave. I am passionate about my home and strive to create a safe place where my family can gather with one another. I believe in honoring a home’s roots. Therefore, my design style tends to be more classic and simple. I want the elements that I choose for my home to look in style today, as well as twenty years from now. Welcome to my home!
House No. 214

This is the entry to our home. I believe the elements I chose set the tone for what you will be greeted with when you walk inside. Let’s see if you agree!

House No. 214
What do you think? Do you see some repeated elements? We put this kitchen addition on in 2010 and I designed every inch of it. Our family of five is in here a lot and  it truly is the heart of our home.
House No. 214
Marrying the old house and the new house was key in making the design look seamless. To accomplish this I simply “honored my home’s roots” by echoing what was already there.

House No. 214
I choose things that I love to fill this important room in my home. Instead of placing this precious picture of two (my baby wasn’t born yet) of my children in a living or dining room I enjoy it in the kitchen where I spend a lot of my time.  The pantry door came from the 1931 home I grew up in. I absolutely adore it and it helps tell my story.
house no 214 dining room
We chose to create an informal dining area as part of the kitchen. There is a family gallery wall and a small sitting area that help create a dining room feel. The table comes from Holland where my father is from and we sat around it as children. Again, surround yourself with items that you love.

I  love to enjoy my coffee here. I found the bistro table for $55 at a flea market…one of my best finds!

house no 214 living room
The color palette continues and is repeated in the living room.

House No. 214
I love a collection…its can make such a statement!
House No. 214
Our mudroom is made up of a bench that came from the farm my father grew up on in Holland. The beautiful shelf was built by my husband. Everything gets a lot of use in this house!
laundry room
I found this green chair at a garage sale for $18. I do adore this pop of color!

House No. 214 bedroom
Our master bedroom has vaulted ceilings that echo another room in the house. I love the element of repetition!
bathroom 1
I designed the bath to have classic elements that stayed true to the time period of when the home was built. Again, marrying the old and the new was the key to my design.
bathroom 2
The ceiling in the nursery is the one we echoed in the master bedroom. I love all of the natural light that it brings to the space.

The room is not large in size, but it is warm and inviting. I prefer the latter anyway!
Thank you for taking the time to tour my home and please email me with any styling needs you may have.

Love the home tours!! You should do a garden tour for the summer months! It would be fun to see how everyone works in their yard, and what the outside of people’s homes look like.

Love all the aqua in your house!
