I have a theory – Fear is just anxiety in fancy pants.
Seriously, as someone who suffers from anxiety, if I deconstruct it, I can almost always trace back my overwhelmed, fight or flight emotion back to being afraid of something.
It could be fear of something physical… or something mental… or just some made up scenario in my own head, but if I take just a second for a deep breath and be aware of what’s actually going on, then I find that understanding why I’m feeling that way helps SO much!
Of course, it’s not quite that easy. It often happens because I’m stressed – which is because I’m worried about something that may or may not happen – which is because I’m afraid of the outcome. Crazy how that work, eh?
No matter how you look at it – whether you have a fear of skydiving (that would be me) or asking out a guy for a date (that would be Dawn), then either way, to tackle those fears, you have to take a risk.
Although I have no intentions of overcoming my fear of sky diving, it doesn’t stress me out, which doesn’t manifest into anxiety. It’s a weird, tangled web. Fear, anxiety, risks…. the whole shebang.
Instead of getting stressed over it, in this episode of the Hot Mess Moms podcast, Dawn + I find the humor so we can laugh about it in typical hot mess fashion <3
