cocktail hour: The Shelby {a Steel Magnolias inspired cocktail}

Pink is my signature color – Shelby, Steel Magnolias

As a southern girl, it’s my duty to know every single line from Steel Magnolias. I think it’s a law somewhere. As a good mom, I’ve even made my girls watch it so many times, that now they know every line {yes, I know – I rock at moming.} What makes watching one of the greatest movies ever made even better? A Steel Magnolias inspired cocktail, of course! The Shelby is the perfect accompaniment for seeing M’Lynn and the girls go through life with all of the grace that southern girls are known for. And, hello- it’s pink! I don’t know if it’s blush or bashful, but it sure looks like it would have been fitting at Shelby’s wedding {and it’s utterly delicious!}

Ingredients:

  • 5 oz strawberry vodka
  • juice of three limes
  • 1/2 cup simple syrup (1 cup sugar, 1 cup water – heated until all sugar is melted)
  • 2 oz grenadine
  • 10 oz mineral water
  • crushed ice
  • strawberries for garnish

Mix together all of the ingredients except ice in a pitcher. Fill high ball glasses with ice, and the pour mixture over to fill. Garnish with strawberries.

If you need a fun girl’s night in – just whip up a pitcher of these, pop in Steel Magnolias, and you’re sure to have a lot of giggles and even a few tears. I think Shelby would love that.

    Your cocktail sounds delicious! I’ll be making this at my next girls get together. Thanks for the recipe. I think the color is bashful and it would go perfectly with a Pepto Bismol Pink wedding!

    Steel Magnolias is hands down one of my most favorite movies of all times. And yes, I cry every time — how about that cemetery scene? Breaks my heart. Kathleen, Charm Bracelet Diva {at Home}
