Waffle recipe – the best waffles you’ll ever eat

When it comes to a waffle recipe, I’m kind of a snob. See, I’m addicted to waffles. I eat them all. the. time. Being vegetarian, I don’t just “grab” whatever I can find when I’m hungry in a hurry. And waffles are my go-to. I got this recipe from my mamma – who is one of the best cooks you’ll ever meet. So when she shared it with me I was a convert – only scratch made waffles will pass through these lips – and this is hands down the best waffle recipe you’ll ever eat.

I'm definitely trying this - because I've yet to find the perfect waffle recipe

Waffle Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 whole eggs
  • 1 cup milk (whole works best)
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Directions:

Start by heating your waffle maker according to instructions. In a large bowl, mix together the eggs, milk, vanilla, sugar & butter until well combined. Slowly add in the flour until it *JUST* comes together. Don’t over beat, that’s how you get tough waffles.

Every waffle maker is different, but most have a little light to tell you when it’s ready to cook and when the waffles are done. Just cook them according to directions and you’ll be in gastronomical heaven in no time.

Yields approx 6 waffles (depending on the size of your waffle maker)

This waffle recipe looks SO good! Wouldn't it be perfect for dessert waffles? YUM!

Now, it’s not my place to tell you how to eat them. But if you wanna go all Forrest Gump you can eat waffles & syrup, or waffles & fruit, or waffles & ice cream, or waffle sandwiches – the possibilities are as endless as my love for them.

This waffle recipe looks SOOOO good! Definitely trying it next weekend!

I was just telling my husband that I wanted to find a better recipe for waffles. The box stuff I was using was “no bueno”. You must have read my mind! Why was I buying the box stuff anyway, when your recipe is so easy. Thanks, I’ll have to make these this weekend. One question, is self-rising flour, just plain flour?

Oh! That’s a good question – sorry I forgot to specific. It’s self rising flour – hope you enjoy the waffles!

This recipe really needs salt, the texture was weird. Somewhat heavy. I wonder that my self-rising flour was old. Does the “self-rising” power go away if it’s old?

Hmmm, I’m not sure Lori, I’ve never had a problem with it.

Flower will keep for years if stored properly in a air tight container

Been bouncing around on recipes with self rising flour because it was purchased as a last resort during quarantine and will be hanging onto this one for waffles. I didnt heat my iron though until after making batter and covered with saran wrap to allow the batter to rise a litttle. They came out beautiful and airy.
