The blog famous apothecary jar

We've seen them all over blogland - take a candlestick & a vase and transform them into a beautiful apothecary jar. It took me longer than everybody else for two reasons. 1) I am slow. 2) I am picky. It took me forever to find the perfect candlestick, because I wanted one that looked simliar to the turned wooden ones that I adore.

Just remember to leave it alone for 24 hours (that's always the hardest part).

Then you get a beautiful jar. Mine was $4 - $2 for each piece. You can get cheaper components if you look hard enough.

So whaddya think?

  9. You really picked the right pieces to glue together. It actually looks like an apothocary jar, not a candle stick and a vase glued together. I'm pretty picky as well and yours looks great. The best I've seen out there. Well done.

  17. That was just too easy. I'm going to be haunting thrift stores to find something like that so I can make my own jar.

Voted for your tree. It's beautiful!

  18. Very lovely! I am hoping for some different Gorilla glue in my stocking to make some of these! ;) They just look so nice. Who ever thought of these first should get a big kiss!

  19. RM - E6000 is better than Gorilla Glue, to me. It will glue anything and doesn't bubble up like foam. Gorilla Glue works well, but I've ruined a couple of projects because it bled out from what I was making.

At Walmart, the E6000 is only $2.97 - well worth every penny. It will make more projects than you'd ever imagine!

  33. What a neat idea! I had not seen that before, so Im glad you shared it. Ditto what everybody else says, that candle stick was perfect with the vase.

  34. I have never seen this idea anywhere! I see the apothecary jars holding everything(even candy - imagine that!) on all the blogs I read, but never how to make one or even how to really save money on them. I have bought a few from Marshall's and you still beat their prices! I think that this is one of the best ever ideas!!

  35. I LOVE this idea...I'd never thought of it. I've done the old-plate-on-a-candlestick pedestal thing, but not this. I'm gonna be looking for these components and make one myself! Thank you for sharing.

  36. I've done the plate & candlestick too, but this is great idea :)

  37. Your "jar" looks great. What I can't understand is where do you go to find your glass and candlestick so cheap? I wish you would do a blog on all of the many things we can fill apothacary jars and cloches with. Nancy
