Remember a few weeks back when we took a little day trip to Memphis and scored my Pottery Barn sofa? Right next door was a Williams Sonoma outlet – which I also had to scope out before hauling home my sweet deal.
I found a shelf of these cute single serving trifle dishes – and my mind was reeling with all the possibilities…
Single serving parfaits for our summer entertaining
Using them to hold dips for fruit & veggie platters
Holding chocolate gravy for breakfast
Filling them with cheese, sour cream, etc. for taco nights
Vases for small bunches of flowers for low centerpieces
Ah.. the list went on and on… Then I saw the 25% off tag, and I was sold – 10 of them loaded in my cart for a mere $3 each. What a steal! Right?
A few days ago I was browsing at Wal-Mart, and found the exact same ones (same maker and everything) - $1.97 each. Ummm… not a good deal.
Well at least if one gets broken it’s easily replaceable, without going too far away! (At least that’s what my inner PollyAnna is saying.)
Hope you have a great weekend!

don't you just hate that? Way to look on the bright side though!
ReplyDeleteI got a trifle bowl with 4 of these mini trifles {which I LOVE and use for many different things also} at Target on clearance after Christmas for about $10. It was one of those "great gift" box sets. I'm sorry, that probably doesn't make you feel any better. But I am glad you mentioned they have them at Wal-mart b/c I've always wanted a few more to add to my collection. Look on the bright side, you'll find a great deal somewhere else that will make up for it. :)

Ha - I have the same ones. I snagged 6 from the WS outlet which is 3+ hours away (outlet trip). Yeah - Walmart is a mere 3 minutes away. Wish I would have known to look.
ReplyDeleteI hate when that happens!! I know exactly where you are talking about. My husband is from Memphis and we're there all the time! (We live in Nashville now).
ReplyDeleteThey still are very cute!
Love the PB outlet but I wasn't impressed with the WS outlet.
ReplyDeletedont you just 'love' it when that happens. but they are very pretty though, and with all of your amazing ideas, very useful too.
ReplyDeletethank you for sharing.
jackie
Bummer :(. But yay to you for sharing with all your readers where to score them on-the-cheap! Those are adorable!
ReplyDeleteNo way!!! Love all your ideas for them though :)
ReplyDeleteWell as many uses as you have for them they will be worth the money. You must tell us more about chocolate gravy!
ReplyDeleteHi Gina, yes I know that feeling I just recently ordered some thing from the U.S I still haven't got it yet, and a few days later they were having 50% off . I could have saved about $132 if I waited a few days, but hey who knew. never mind those things tic me off a little to say the least. You also have a great Weekend it's Saturday Midday here. I'm sure you will still be tucked up fast asleep still. Weather is beautiful here In Western Australia still ,it's still like Summer it's 31 Celcius which would be 90 F !
ReplyDeletesherrie from Simpleliving :):)
Bummer! But I think they were worth every penny you spent on them. LOVE all of the ideas!
ReplyDeleteGreat way to look at it! I do hate it when that happens.
ReplyDeletebtw, chocolate gravy for breakfast? My boys want to come over to your house for breakfast!! ;)
Never mind the bowls.... chocolate gravy??!??
ReplyDeleteI think that calls for a recipe post. Please share! My kids would love it. :)
Slightly annoying! Im now thinking of crossiants for breakfast hmmm yum
ReplyDeleteIt happens to us all from time to time. But it sure can make you upset and not settle well with you.

Love the honesty...I hate when I do something like that! Oh well, at least it wasn't TOO much money invested!!
ReplyDeleteThey are perfect!
ReplyDeleteCan I order a chocolate gravy to go, please?
I am curious about your chocolate gravy too. My Grandpa had a killer recipe he would fix for us so I wonder if it is similar.
ReplyDeleteYummm, great post, I just love your blog, makes me happy everytime I come to visit!
ReplyDeleteI'm on board for a chocolate gravy recipe post, too! I know we Southerners love our gravies, but I have never heard of chocolate gravy. Can you put it on grits? Please post the recipe! My hubby would love it. Just kidding about the grits. Or maybe not:-D
ReplyDeleteOk - chocolate gravy recipe on the horizon :)
ReplyDeleteWell, you just never know what you might find at Walmart. It does seem like they are raising their quality levels. They've added lots of Better Homes & Gardens items, & some of those are quite nice. I like the little trifle dishes, & may have to check those out. Just scoped out your mantle redo and it looks lovely. Nice job!

Isn't crazy what Walmart has?! Even though you could have saved a little...they are fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI just want to thank you so very much! You see I sometimes feel like the BAD mom because on special days we have things like cocoa krispies w/ chocolate or vanilla ice cream and strawberries for breakfast. Now I don't feel bad! And I know exactly what you mean about thinking you are getting a great deal... I will let you in on a little secret. Rarely ever is the same quality of item sent to Walmart that is sent to Williams-Sonoma. We knew of someone in the industry who knew this to be the case especially with clothing! NO matter what... enjoy them!! (since they are WAY cool!!!)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the chocolate "gravy" recipe!! :)
Argh! I just hate when that happens!
ReplyDeleteJeanine
ugh, I hate it when that happens but at least you didn't pay double the wal-mart price! I need to get to Wal-Mart now and get some, I have needed some dessert glasses for awhile.
ReplyDeleteWell that is just WRONG. I did the same thing today..... I paid 10 per yard for fabric that was 3 per yard at the next store, grrrr.... I have so much to tell you, I will call you next week. Hope you are having a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteCha Cha
Bummer ...but they are really cute and you will use them forever..and always have a story to tell about them.
ReplyDeleteHugz ...Betty
I love chocolate gravy! I grew up in Oklahoma eating chocolate gravy. I now live in Kansas and my friends think I'm nuts. They never heard of it. Recently my daughter, who still lives in Oklahoma, gave me a church cookbook with 2 chocolate gravy recipes in it.
ReplyDeletevery cute with all those white chrysanthemums in - least I think that's what those flowers are!? cheers Trish :)
ReplyDeleteOh NO!! Oh well....sometimes we have to admit our mistakes and move on. Hey - we are all human and compared to the price of everything else there what you got was a steal...at the time! I used to get sucked into those Pottery Barn clearance sales and the same thing kept happening to me. Now I hit up the $ Store or Walmart for anything glass...SOOOO cheap!
ReplyDeleteOh no!!!! I was at Walmart 2 hours ago and saw those there, no idea they were by the same "people" that made the ones for PB!! Man, that burns that PB can mark them up that much =(
ReplyDeleteI hate it when that happens! Though, I always check at Walmart first because that is the agreement I have with my husband who works for Walmart Corporate. He is okay with me shopping wherever as long as I try Walmart first! :)
ReplyDeleteok...Wait wait wait.....did you say chocolate gravy?????????????? I was born in Missouri raised on it. Still make it a couple of times a year. I live in Indiana....not many people have ever heard of it. Although, in Ann Arbor Michiga there is a restaraunt that served it....with crispy bacon crumbled in it...double yum!!!
ReplyDeleteBetter at Walmart than the Dollar Store, right? They're still super cute and $3 sounds like a nice price.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of chocolate gravy...intrigued.
