Creating Beautiful Chalkboard Placecards

I'm crazy about chalkboards. I've put the magical spray paint on windows, tags, and yes, even place cards. It's a pretty easy process to make them, but making them look beautiful with the chalk is a little tricky. Today I'm sharing some easy tips on how to make them look beautiful.

 To make the tags you'll need some chalkboard spray paint and some card stock tags (I found these in the scrap booking aisle.) To make them pretty you'll also need some chalk, a pencil sharpener, and a rubber stamp. Other than those supplies, you'll also need a bit of water.

 I simply sprayed the tags with 4-5 light coats of chalkboard paint, letting them dry between each coat. I waited 24 hours for them to cure before the next step. {Of course, if you have some card stock and a punch on hand, it would be just as good to use that, too.}

To create a pattern with my stamp, I wet my chalk by dipping it in water, then give it a second for the water to soak into the chalk.

 I rubbed it lightly over the stamp, so it would catch all the lines of the stamp. I found that it works best with outline stamps, solid ones don't work quite as well, but still look pretty.

 While the chalk is still wet, I stamped it onto the name card, just like I would with ink. Easy peasy!

I've always had a hard time writing with chalk, but when I learned to sharpen it then it made it a lot easier. I dampen the chalk (just like before) and then use the LARGE hole of an old school pencil sharpener to sharpen it like a crayon. 

 Once it's sharp then I write with it just like a pencil.

 I've also found that if you make sure that the chalk is just damp it will write a lot smoother than when it's dry. The lovely part of chalk tags is that if you mess up you can just wipe it off and start again.

Quick, easy and reusable. The stamp trick adds just another layer to the tag that makes it even more special.
