I adore Kate Spade. And, I adore polka dots. If you follow me on Pinterest, you'll know that I've been begging Santa for a gorgeous polka dot bag. But, let's be honest... $140 for a vase? No, I'm not kidding. It's one thing to feed my obsession for highly overpriced handbags.... but I don't have an obsession with overpriced glass. So let's make my version....
All you need is a vase with smooth sides and a DecoArt glass paint marker. That's it. See, even the supply list is simple. I found my vase at Marshall's for $7, but you could find them second-hand for a song.
Just activate the paint by pressing the tip down on a piece of paper until the paint flows to the tip, then dot, dot, dot. I wanted teeny, tiny dots - and I did them in a cascading confetti sorta way instead of uniform big dots.
To prevent smudging, I did one half of the vase, let it dry for about an hour, then did the other side. Let the paint dry for 4 hours, then put it into a cold oven, turn it on to 375 degrees and set your timer for 40 minutes. When the timer goes off, open the door and let it come to room temperature before removing. {All that info is on the paint marker packaging, too.}
And that's it. See, seriously easy. And you saved like $130. Awesome, huh?

ReplyDeleteHappy weekend...
Ciao for now...
It's the same picture that was at the beginning. Notice the placement of the dos. I'm sure it would turn out to be very cute but that last picture is NOT the DIY one
DeleteApparently she did a very good job on the knock-off, because she convinced you! The second picture is actually the Kate Spade version. The first one is labeled "Kate Spade inspired dot vase."
DeleteYes. The DIY one IS the one with the little dots. The Kate Spade version has big dots. I like the look of the little dots better! Miss Kate needs to read the blog before commenting that it's NOT a DIY!
Deleteya'll are right - the first photo is my version, the second is the real Kate Spade vase. :)
DeleteLove this idea! Thanks for the curing directions too! laura@imnotatrophywife.com
