What I can tell you is what I used to make them: Lenda curtains from Ikea. I know.... I know.... kinda weird. I had a set on hand and loved the color and feel of them, so I bought more and used them to make my slips. It took 3 sets to do the pair of wing backs. I'm pretty sure it will take 2 sets when I finally get around to my sofa. At $20 per set you get a LOT of fabric.
So when you add up those $50 chairs with $60 worth of curtains, I have about $110 in a pair... which is a killer price for the chairs that I'd dreamed about for-evah. My only regret? Waiting 8 months to make slipcovers.
Moral of the story? Don't be a chicken - just do it! Watch and re-watch Marian's videos, read {and re-read and re-read} Kristi's book - then just take a deep breath and start. It's not nearly as scary as you think!

Gorgeous, Gina! I took the lazy route, because the Ektorp slipcover from IKEA was the perfect fit for my sofa. I just got it last week, and the difference is amazing!
ReplyDeleteWow they look amazing, I will have to check out the e book. I love Miss Mustard seed - life saver for a DIY newbie
ReplyDeleteFabulous job! I bought a pair of turquoise Sanela curtains from Ikea (it's a nice cotton velvet) to make a slip cover for a chair. I have the fabric all washed and ready to go ... just waiting for me to sit down at the machine. Maybe I'll make it this weekend with your inspiration!
