Somewhere along the way, we were taught that distraction is something to resist. That productivity is king. That everything we do must have a purpose, a goal, a return on investment.
But what if some distractions aren’t just necessary—they’re sacred?

I coined the term beautiful distractions as an act of joyous rebellion against a system designed to keep us overwhelmed, traumatized, and powerless. In a political climate hell-bent on chaos and control, choosing joy, beauty, and calmness is not frivolous—it is revolutionary.
Because in the war against fascism, staying soft and rooted in pleasure is one of our greatest weapons. It’s the opposite of what they want. It’s how we reclaim our sovereignty.
These aren’t distractions that pull you away from life. These are the ones that bring you back to it.
A slow walk through the garden. Rearranging your bookshelves by color or mood. Making a mess in the kitchen just to taste something nostalgic. Thrifting for treasures you don’t need but somehow know belong in your world.
These moments may not build your business or tidy your inbox—but they build you.
They restore your nervous system so you can show up to the real work with clarity and calm. They bring your energy back into alignment. They allow you to respond, not react.
We don’t practice beautiful distractions to ignore the world—we practice them so we can face it with sustainable energy, emotional resilience, and steady focus.
They remind you that your value is not in your output. They reconnect you with the present moment. They bring you back to your body, your senses, your joy.
And when the world feels too much—when the news is heavy, the to-do list is long, the pace feels relentless—these beautiful distractions become something more:
They become lifelines.
They are not the opposite of purpose. They are the purpose.
We are not here to hustle ourselves into numbness. We are here to live. To feel. To make this life soft and beautiful—because we deserve that. Because everyone does.
As we build the foundation of a matriarchal future rooted in healing, peace, and fulfillment, this is the work. This is the way.
And we must also name this: our humanity has been hijacked by screens.
We’ve been conditioned to numb our discomfort with doom scrolling, to seek connection in likes and comments instead of real conversation, to consume other people’s lives instead of living our own. It has made us passive observers rather than active participants.
The most radical thing you can do in this climate is to close the apps and step back into your life. Fully. Presently. With reverence.
Joy isn’t something you wait for—it’s something you choose.

Turning the Ordinary Into a Beautiful Act of Rebellion
Let’s stop casting aside the simple things that make life rich. These moments aren’t fluff—they are the foundation of a soft, powerful, fully embodied life.
- When you’re cooking dinner, listen to music that creates a whole mood—something that turns the act into an experience, not just a task.
- Instead of just throwing your hair in a bun and calling it done, take 15 extra minutes to pamper yourself. Choose an outfit that makes you feel like the main character. Elevate your energy for the day.
- Water your plants slowly, whispering intentions of growth and grace into the leaves.
- Light a candle before you sit down to answer emails. Let that small flame remind you of your own.
- Read a few pages of a book in the middle of the afternoon instead of reaching for your phone. Let your imagination stretch.
- Walk barefoot through your yard or garden and breathe in the air like it’s your first breath.
- Make your bed with intention. Smooth the covers. Fluff the pillows. Create a space that welcomes you home.
- Write a love note to your future self and tuck it in a drawer for later.
- Turn off the TV and play an old record. Dance in the kitchen like you’ve never been told to behave.
These acts aren’t silly or selfish. They are sacred. They are how we stay human in a world trying to desensitize us.
The things that bring you joy are not distractions. They are the path.
So let your life be filled with them. Let yourself be filled with them.
And may you always know: you were never meant to just survive this life. You were meant to live it—fully, beautifully, and on purpose.

Beautiful words. Beautiful thoughts. Thankful for you reminding us to seek beauty and hope.
It makes me extremely happy to discover that I am already doing many of your ‘todo’s!!
This was truly what I’ve been trying to tell people! You have said it in a much more eloquent and beautiful way. Thank you
Thank you, this message came at just the right time. I just received some health information that is scary and I now can take a little time to think and relax.
I really needed this weekly article. I do always make my bed as a simple, loving picture. I work with Little People (2/3 year olds) but every Sunday I figure out my wardrobe for the week. Some teachers dress ok but I always dress to impress. If it gets paint or playdough on them. It comes out in the wash. Finally, I light a candle every morning before I go to work and when I come home. It just gets me ready for the day ahead and helps me unwind when I get home. I do believe that I am going to start reading at lunch time instead of picking up my phone. Thank You again for a whimsical artistical article. Cannot wait until next week’s.❤️
Thank you for this beautiful reminder to take my long baths, refresh my bnb coffee bar (it makes me fell like I’m on vacation!) and put on music instead of the news when I make dinner.
Thank you the much needed reminder. I have gotten lost in the doing and forgot about the living part of life.
This is my first newsletter, and I cannot agree more finding the little joys in life!!
I am applying this more and more in my own life and loving the peace and magic it brings to my day. I don’t need a reason, I just joy that’s all.
Beautiful. A soft mindset leads to intentional beauty.
Thank you! These are such important reminders. I’ve tried to live my life by similar guidelines, and for the most part I feel like I’ve been able to. But lately it’s been slipping away more frequently than I like. So reading through this, thinking on it, being a little more active about defending my joy without walling myself off from the world, has become a priority in my life. And this helps so sooo much. Thank you!
Thank you, Gina! I follow you on Instagram and just found my way to your newsletter.
My head has been shaking from left to right (in the ‘NO’ way) WAY too much in the past months. What a relief to notice that as I read this newsletter YES was my body’s natural and easy response to it all. I have been intentional about choosing things every day that are the delights in my life. Your piece here both gave me a moment to acknowledge those choices I make AND it is this perfect reminder (in your words):
“As we build the foundation of a matriarchal future rooted in healing, peace, and fulfillment, this is the work. This is the way.”
So yes, I’m in!! All the way… ‘”turning the ordirnary into a beautiful act of rebellion”
Thank you!
P.S. I wish you were my neighbor! 😉 But for now grateful to find you here…
A beautiful and soul enriching reminder, thank you!
This was the first article of yours that I read, and it was lovely, just lovely- thank you, Gina.
