Interior Designed: Hall Decorating – Small Spaces with Big Style

Interior Designed Hallway Space

Every home has a space that is overlooked, and my hallway is a perfect example of that. It’s such a teeny tiny space, in a wonky configuration that I had no idea what to do with it. In about 4 steps, there are 5 door ways, a corner, and a seriously short ceiling. When we first moved in (about 9 years ago,) there was about 99 million other things to do, so I chipped away at it between other projects. First we added in bead board walls when we did the kitchen, then we added a bookshelf into the only space that was usable space. Later we put down new flooring in there, basically made from scraps of other projects in the same way that we did our kitchen floors. Every door was replaced, when we did each of the rooms that they lead into, and eventually we put up all new trim around the doors, floor and ceiling. It’s definitely been a work in progress! But, now that I’m on the home stretch, I thought I’d share a few tricks that I’ve pulled together, and in a few days I’ll share the completely finished space.

With such a small space, I only had a few key places decorate our hall to make it all pretty – which is why I went with some classic choices that spoke to my farmhouse lovin’ soul. The walls are my favorite white (Pure White by Sherwin Williams) and the floors are, of course, our own farmhouse floors. See the schoolhouse light? I’m going to share a $5 light upgrade tomorrow… and it’s a great match on a low budget!

We also made our own bookshelf, that looks a lot like the Tuscan Flush Bookcase from Ballard Designs. Ours is a little more simple, and you can see it when I share the whole space on Friday. I also found a simple, black frame at TJ Maxx for $15 , which was a great deal compared to the same black gallery frame Room & Board for $69 (gotta love getting the look for less!)

My favorite part of the space has to be these amazing signs from Schoolhouse Electric. Hubba, hubba. At only $20 each, they are such a great statement for the price. They are the perfect blend of farmhouse and industrial with a graphic feel.

Of course, I’ve been inspired by tons of other hallway decorating ideas, too. If you’re looking for more inspiration to see how to put big style into your small space, there’s a bunch of great pins on my Hallways Board on Pinterest.
