Vintage House Numbers Focal Wall

Do you ever wake up at 3 a.m. with an idea that just will not let you sleep? Tiny thoughts dominate my insomniac brain at all hours of the day, but some of them just get jammed in there and will not go away.

Usually numbers haunt me in a bad way, like math. And taxes. Yuck.

Then there’s the good kind, like the idea of creating a vintage house numbers focal wall. I just could not seem let go of the idea of putting a bunch of numbers on my wall.

vintage number focal wall It’s a good thing my sweet husband has no objections to letting me try my crazy ideas. Usually they don’t pan out, but when those crazy ideas actually do work… it’s kinda magical. Make a focal wall with vintage house numbers By pure luck, the morning I awoke with the obsession was also our anniversary. We’d already decided not to work that day, and instead leave the girls at home and just spend the day doing something fun. When I asked (ever so sweetly) if we might could possibly go to Southern Accents, he loved the idea.

When we arrived my friend Lucy (who works there) met us at the door, and asked if we were just browsing. But I was on a mission, and she took me all over the store to dig up all of the vintage house numbers we could find. I thought I might find a small handful, instead I walked out with over 40 of them. In all shapes… and sizes… and colors.

It truly was a thing of beauty.

Make a focal wall with vintage house numbersI started with the big numbers and scattered them over the area I wanted to cover, then filled it in one by one with my Rockwell 3RILL.  Make a focal wall with vintage house numbersNo painting, or sanding, or heavy duty power tools involved. And the best part? There’s plenty of room to let my collection grow over time. Years from now I hope to look at that wall and see trips and stories of when & where we bought the numbers, not just some random collection. That’s decorating with a purpose, and it makes me incredibly happy.

*Thanks to Southern Accents for helping me gather such a great collection & to Rockwell Tools for providing all of the power tools for projects here at the cottage. All ideas, words, photos and opinions are 100% my own. I have received product for this post, but have received no additional compensation.*

I love to decorate or enhance a piece of furniture with a number or numbers and sometimes people will ask “what the 5 is for?” … I just say, it is a pretty number and I like it. I do love your wall of numbers. Great idea.

I love the wall!!! Looks great. All I could think of reading your post was: as a child I used to have recurring nightmares of “The Count” from Sesame Street, who counted and then fell down the stairs! I’m not sure I could re-live that! LOL! Julia

I love this idea but numbers scare me. lol.
It has given me a fairly similar idea though… How about trying it with stencilled letters in a mix of different bright colours to add a bit of pizzazz and pow!
    What do you think?

What a unique way to celebrate your anniversary! You have a good idea for decorations for your home. Out of the blue, creativity sometimes works better than planned projects.
