Today is my turn for Spring Week – and I’m sharing my new spring mantel. Spring is a big deal in my neck of the woods. First everything starts coming to life, flowers start to pop out and the cotton candy tinted trees all around my house just look so pretty. But, as beautiful as they are, they don’t hold a candle to the real reason that I love this season. Easter is one of the very few holidays that I decorate for and celebrate full tilt. As a Christian, this time of year is so important to my family, so I wanted to honor that this year.
These three crosses were a little something special that Mr. SCC made for me out of some barn wood scraps. Bringing the wood back to life for another season was kind of fitting to me.
Some simple crosses with a little kickstand. Nothing too fancy.Mr. SCC also rescued this little nest last fall. Abandoned, he plucked it out of a tree that fell and brought it inside. A pitcher of ruffled tulips adds a little extra touch, don’t cha think?
The color & texture of them caught my eye and I couldn’t wait to bring them home.
A little something simple – but keeping it simple means that we can focus on the elements – and the reasons behind them.

Hi Sara, I got that tile at a flea market a couple of years ago, but I’m pretty sure it came from Hobby Lobby. It was a horrible pea green color – but I spray painted it the teal.

Gina, your mantel looks beautiful! I love, love, LOVE the crosses. I don’t know if you’ve seen my cross collection–I’ve shown it a few times on my blog. While I have all kinds of crosses from all over, I don’t think I have any handmade ones! (At least no really handmade ones–you know that some things say “handmade” when that means they were mass-produced by hand.) Anyway, these are just beautiful. Absolutely stunning in their simplicity. And good point about their representing something new being made from what was old! Thank God for new life, right?

I love this…so simple yet meaningful and the colors are wonderful. I love the turquoise metal tile combined with all the other textures and colors. And I agree that this is a time on the Christian calendar worth decorating and celebrating.

A truly significant mantel and decorations. We see/hear too much of the Easter bunny and nothing about the reason for Easter. I believe in God, not a big religious person but I respect the cross and reason for Easter. Too many of us tend to forget about Jesus Christ and what he did for us all.
Your little crosses are so beautiful in their simplicity. We don’t have any old barn wood but we do have some beat up pallets so will see if hubs can make some of the crosses. They look fairly easy to make. Thanks for sharing your beautiful mantel and display.
We had a row of pine trees between our property and neighbors in KY. Every year there were nests that fell out of the trees when the wind blew like crazy and I’d keep them. Had about 3 or 4 but when we left had to leave them as they tend to disintegrate when handled too much. Hated to leave them but I’ve managed to acquire other ones I’ve purchased here and there. When I see a nest somewhere I have to buy it. We don’t have any trees big enough yet here in CO that have any nests yet.
