Hello all! My name is Kimm, and I am a wife, a mom, a blogger (over at Reinvented), and a HUGE FAN of The Shabby Creek Cottage just like you. My style is rustic and farmhousey, my home decor budget is TINY, and my favorite place to shop is our local thrift store. After enjoying the festive color of the Christmas season, I am always broke ready for a quiet and cozy January, and want my decor to reflect that. I am thrilled to be here today to share our rustic thrifted winter mantel.
In the winter, our decor is neutral and cozy, with lots of texture and a little sparkle. With that in mind, I went shopping at our local Goodwill; choosing four chunky wood candlesticks and a couple of books, and spending less than $20.
I love using books for color and to add height to small stuff on our mantel, along with some old metal boxes I found at a summer flea market.
I pulled out some gray chalk type paint and gave each candlestick two light coats.
The details on the tall pair are amazing! I didn’t try too hard to get the paint in to the details because I’m lazy I wanted to highlight them.
After some dry time and a light sanding, these beauties were ready for their debut.
The old window is another flea market find. I love incorporating it in to every mantel design. To add some winter fun to my base of boxes, books and candlesticks, I added three faux snowballs, a few snowflake ornaments, and a glittery pine cone. My hubby created the largest snowflake from some scrap wood and I love how it adds some old wood warmth with the porch post finials on the ends. The other snowflakes I had in my stash.
My plan was to create this look to share, then take it down for Christmas and redo it in January, but now I’m not sure I want to part with it!
Tell me, what is your favorite thrift store purchase EVER?
Thank you so much to Gina for having me today! I hope to see you all again soon!

Right now, my favorite thrift find is our round dinner table. We’re downsizing next month so needed a smaller table witha leaf. I found the perfect table with ugly scratches, single pedestal so no legs to get in the way. After some heavy sanding and multiple coats of stain, it looks better than new. And it cost $33.50. DEAL!
I find the best furniture at Goodwill. The best toy selection at Value Village. Scored a darling wooden child’s kitchen at V V. A cute reading chair for the guest room my sis wants to take home with her when she visits at G W.
Okay, I am having a hard time picking my favorite. Too much good stuff. But you do have to make repeat visits, because you never know when the perfect thing might show up.

I love this Kimm, and there is no need to take it down after Christmas I think it will work right into Spring!
Kimm at Reinvented says
Thank you Toni, that’s my plan! I switched a few things out for red for Christmas, but this look will be perfect after that!

Loved the mantel remake. I love to see how people put things together. I just never had that talent!

Thank you Joanne! I follow a few “rules” I learned from Edie, at Life in Grace. “Something you love, something to lean, something “alive”, and something with sheen. π Those guidelines work every time. π
