I know it’s been nearly a month that we’ve been talking about the studio…. are y’all getting tired of it yet? I’ve been working away on it – and it’s really nice to see it coming together. The hard part of this space is I want to do it on basically no budget. I did manage to buy a few things, but the curtains… well those were free!
I have this horrible tendency to hold on to tiny bits of random fabric. Usually it’s because I love it so much that I just can’t bear to throw away even 1/2 a yard. but it also means that I end up with tons of plastic totes full of odds and ends. When I saw curtains like these in a local shop, I knew just what I’d do for my studio. I took all those little scrappy bits and tied them together. It took hours to rip all of it into strips then tie it together, it’s definitely not just an afternoon project. Three days of down time later, I was ready to pull it all together.
I simply looped it around the branches and pulled it through. Easy stuff. The rod? Well that’s just a branch out of our tree that needed trimming. See, more free. I like free.
I wanted lots of color, so all of the bits of blue and pink, as well as scraps of burlap and muslin all came together to add a little whimsy to my space.
I did tell ya I was craving quirk, right? Well it’s almost complete, after days of working on it…. so I can’t wait to share just it in all its glory very soon 🙂

This is such a fun idea – and looks like fun to make. I am so going to do this. I bet it would look great as a lampshade too……….just thinking! Glad I saved my fabric scraps too.

Hey a 1/2 yard of fabric is awesome stuff. Look what you did with all those scraps. Love it Gina. I am always so amazed at what incredible things people with talent like yourself make with odds and ends. I have so many scraps of this n’ that but just can’t bear to toss them. Who knows what I might use them for sometime in the far future. If I toss things then I have to grumble at myself “why in the heck did you toss those dingbat?”. lol Yeah I drug a truck full of what-if’s all over this country many times cause of that.

Those look super cute! I love the branch.
I also wanted to let you know that in my blog reader, the image for your post always comes up as the PinIt button now so I can’t see the pic that goes with your title. I know a lot of times I just scroll down looking at pictures deciding what I want to read since I can’t possibly get to all the 200+ blogs I follow each day. I always click yours because you are one of my favorites, but I would hate for you to lose readers over something so silly.

Gina, Last May you had a series of photos on how you changed the inside of a trailer. I am purchasing a mobile home and I would love to see your photos again. You had wainscotting on the walls and the kitchen was adorable.

Good for you!! Been there- hated the thin thin cheap wall panelling–guess what PAINT ON IT CAN DO WONDERS..confession: the one thing I continued to hv a prob w was smells from the specific building materials and carpeting..too much carpet- TODAY I would try to counteract that with natural things like herbs & eucalyptus[everyone needs a tree] I call all this USING WHAT YOU HAVE to make your life good and learning so much along the way..one day you can write a book re this. Have fun & keep us posted

Who would have thought? You did an amazing job on this, I just love it to ‘pieces’!!! Thanks for inspiring me…I’m thinking this type of idea would work better as a skirt for my potting bench instead of those old heavy dark curtains I’m using right now.

This is such a good idea! It looks like it is easy to pull off, and that is exactly what I need. Between my job at Dish and keeping up with my family, there is not a lot of time left to decorate, so anything easy and cheap is alright in my book! I came across similar curtains while getting my daily dose of HGTV, and fell in love with them. I have a terrible habit of recording everything on HGTV to my Hopper DVR, since it makes me want to copy everything they do! I never thought having a huge amount of recording space would actually work against me. LOL! Thanks to you, at least one of my HGTV dreams can come true!
