Welcome to the Summer Tour of Homes!
My living room is changing pretty rapidly these days. So much, in fact that I haven’t even had a chance to share many of the tutorials, but they’ll be starting next week so make sure to stay tuned (it’s easy to keep up by subscribing to daily emails in the top of the sidebar)
One of the most recent additions to our space is this trio of new stools from Target for a little bench style action with some fun printables above.
Even our faux fireplace got a fresh coat of paint.
Hemingway finally made it to the living room along with some gold leafed lamps.
Pretty much every inch of our house is a DIY of some sort, including the $5 thrift store spray painted ladder that I left outside to long and was perfectly chippified by a pop up rain storm.
For the most part, summer is all about kicking back, spending as much time as I possibly can with my kiddos and just enjoying the lazy days.
Our porch gets a lot of action in the summer, from kids to family and friends popping by, there’s almost always someone hanging out here.
Our small deck on the end of our house is just now getting some real use. New Target chairs and an umbrella makes it much easier to spend time out here.
And we just installed an outdoor bar here, so it’s a new love of ours to whip up a pitcher of cocktails and hang out with drinks on the decks to wind down at the end of a long day.
Since the tour last summer, we’ve given a couple of spaces a makeover, including our master bedroom. Even though it was “finished” last September, there’s already been a few minor changes to the original space.
Pillows change, the rug changed, and even the side tables got changed out for mismatching ones.
There’s just something about moving furniture from one room to another that makes you feel like you get new spaces without spending a dime (that’s the best kinda makeovers, ya know?)
Our kitchen recently got a makeover, too! The new brighter colors and bolder accessories are so much more my style.
Every inch of our home has to be practical, easy to care for, and most of all, done specifically to my weird tastes. I always have a hard time finding stuff I like to buy, so I just make it instead. Don’t get me wrong, I love to shop, but I really have issues with finding stuff I can’t live without (which is what I look for when buying stuff.)
So I hope you enjoy the summer tour! There’s a few more spaces I didn’t share, but you can find links to the individual tours in the bottom of my sidebar.

Hi Susan, I’ve collected them for a while, and pick them up at antique shops, hardware stores, flea markets, pretty much anywhere I can find them. I especially look when on vacation so I have an every day kinda souvenir 🙂

Beautiful home. I am a huge fan of turquoise and aqua, too. It’s all over my home, mixed with a lot of gray. Fresh and fun, right? I want your turquoise lockers in your kitchen which I think you told me you bought at Ikea. Have to wait for our St. Louis Ikea until next year, but may be worth a trip to Chicago soon to check them out. Your home is so lovely and welcoming. Subscribed. (thought I already did, what was wrong with me?!)

I love your home and your sense of style. Your master bedroom is really pretty. I have a question about your bed in front of the window–mulling this over for my daughgter’s room, but wondered about the functiojality of the window with the bed in front of it. Can you comment on that, please? Also wonder about your headboard.. . ..where did you get it? I would have to get a lower one with the window placement. She wanted an upholstered one, so not sure that is compatible given that they seem to be larger. Any advise on all that would be appreciated. Thank you!
Gina Luker says
Sure – you can find the easy DIY tutorial here: http://www.theshabbycreekcottage.com/2013/07/make-this-king-size-headboard-from.html
And we never open that window, but as far as light goes it works well for us. The window on the other side of the room is the one we always open anyways 🙂

Gina,
I love your home! It’s so beautiful. I’ve poured over the photos so many times. The kitchen, your master, all the details! Aqua and turquoise are my fave colors. I decorate with those colors as well. It has mixed beautifully in your home with every color and texture. I like how you match too. {heehee} Do you remember where you got that amazing sweater? I have been looking for an open-front cardi like that. I have one in black. FYI, I got a wonderful hoodie in that color from Old Navy. Super soft and comfy, and thin for spring/summer. Off to look at your photos again! xox
Gina Luker says
Hi Wendy,
THanks so much! I think the cardigan came from Lane Bryant – I like it so much I bought like 3 colors 🙂
Stephanie says
LOVE the tour! Wondering if you know the turquoise/aqua paint color of the little dresser/side table in your bedroom?
Gina Luker says
Hi Stephanie,
Thanks so much! The dresser is painted Annie Sloan’s Provence – it’s a great color!
