Who doesn’t love chocolate? It’s the ultimate comfort food when your sweet tooth is aching. I love a good candy bar, but this creamy Hershey’s Chocolate Pie is so much better. And to make it in only five minutes? That makes it even better! With only five ingredients and in five minutes you can have a sweet treat that is perfect for a week night dessert with dinner or for a potluck (you’ll go home empty handed every single time!)
Hershey’s Chocolate Pie Recipe
Ingredients:
- one chocolate pie crust (I like Oreo)
- one 8 oz. tub of Cool Whip
- one box Hershey’s chocolate instant pudding
- 3/4 cup milk
- one small Hershey’s bar (fun size)
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the pudding mix and milk until combined. Next fold in 1/3 of the Cool Whip. After that is well mixed, fold in another 1/3 of the Cool Whip. (Leaving 1/3 of the tub for the top layer.) Fill the pie crust with the pudding/Cool Whip mixture.
Put the remaining Cool Whip into a Ziplock bag (you can use a tip if you have one) and snip off the corner to make a piping bag. You could use a traditional piping bag, but using a plastic bag is easier to clean up. Pipe swirls all over the top and fill in the nooks and crannies between with a simple dot to make peaks. You could easily just use a spatula and spread it on, but piping keeps the layers separated much better.
Use a grater to add chocolate shavings all over the top. Then you have two options: refrigerator or freezer. My family likes it both thawed and frozen… so try it both ways. Either way is delicious, but make sure you let it set for about an hour before serving.

Can I put a meringue on a instant pie filling and if so how would I do this??
I don’t see why not, I would just spread the meringue on the completely chilled and set up pie filling 🙂
Can I substitute the Hersheys instant pudding with another brand, as I can’t find the Hersheys.
Sure you can Lilly, good luck and I hope you like it 🙂
Please please please opt for homemade whipped cream (takes but a couple minutes to make) or store- bought whipped cream in a can or some other non-dairy, natural option before choosing to use Cool Whip.
Cool Whip is nothing but a long list of chemicals. Read the container. The actual Hershey’s Chocolate Pie is all natural and may take a bit longer than 5 minutes, but the difference in taste between it and “Chem-Whip” is incredible. And certainly better than giving your family, especially children, more chemicals than they already get in our awful food culture.
Thanks Mari, I do love homemade whipped cream 🙂
