A few weeks ago we decided to tackle our laundry room. It was like killing two birds with one stone: It marked the space off of my 2012 to do list and qualified for the Imagine the Impossibilities Challenge. I sooooo love multi-tasking!

We started by painting out the entire space in Glidden’s Crisp Linen. I have to admit: It took four coats to cover all that leftover aqua. And I used Glidden Duo – but to go from bright blue to light cream took quite a few layers.

Check out my black back door… did you EVER think you’d see me use black to paint a door? I gotta admit I’m kinda loving it!

We brought back in our old island, which works perfectly as a folding station. Check out my new hamper – cheap as chips at $22 (found at The Home Depot), and holds an enormous amount of laundry!

And as for that surprise I’ve been tweeting about – we used corrugated metal on the wall behind the dryer, beneath our cabinets.
IMG_4749Speaking of cabinets, Mr. SCC did a beautiful job, no? We were going for farm house feel – and by George, I think we got it!

Some times form and function can be wrapped up in one little package – like in this hanging rod from Ikea. Now hanging space is right where I need it.

On the other wall, we removed the curtain, replacing it with our beloved bead board. The sturdy coat rack stayed right in place. Add in a black and white print, and I have a black and cream dream of a laundry space.

The miracle in this redo is not the fact that we did it in one weekend…. but as of this morning my laundry is 100% caught up! For the first time is like 5 years. WHEW::That feels good! Makes me wish we woulda done it sooner 🙂

  14. Yea you did it! LOVE LOVE LOVE the laundry room reveal! I’ve been holding out on painting my kitchen door black; I keep arguing with myself that it would look so much better but that by the time I finally get around to it, black will be too out of style. But after seeing your door, I’m off to get the paint can!! Thanks for the inspiration!

  34. Gina, the laundry room is pretty darn wonderful! I am really liking the farmhouse look and you guys nailed it.

    We also spiffed up our laundry room ~ a lot! Had to move out a makeshift pantry and pretty up the place without spending much. You’ll have to let me know what you think..let’s see…193 & 194 are the laundry and the pantry completed.

  43. I absolutely love your laundry room! Oh the metal on the wall is my favorite.

    Question: I am curious about the metal versus damp/wet clothing resulting in rust spots.
    Did you just use a liner of some sort to avoid this?

  56. I love this look and this idea. I would love to do this to my laundry room in our manufactured home. I would love to know how you hung the corrugated metal. I can’t see any screws in the picture. Any advice would be great.

    • It is screwed to the wall, I’m not quite sure why you can’t see them though. We just put up strips of wood on the walls for support, then attached it to the wood strips – similar to how you would do a metal roof.

That corrogated metal wall blows me away especially in mobiles where one may not have beams as the room was never intende to be a bathroom these old mobiles 1974 were pretty basic so added some gyprock to create smaller room sub standard work at that makes me seethe doesn’t take much more time or money to make a new owners life more placid as grew up around carpenters & painters all my childhood also agree that adding color to primer sure makes a difference to new paint job on any room

  60. Seriously. What’s with the laundry machine facing the opposite wall? Is that a joke? Why on earth would you embarrass yourself and make a blog post about re-doing your laundry room and still have a misplaced washing machine. Sorry, but a washing machine and dryer should be placed side-by-side. 🙁

    • It’s the way our house was built, as are most mobile homes. While we could have ripped it all out, there’s really no need because it doesn’t bother me, it’s actually easier that way when moving laundry from one machine to the next.

  61. Like YOUR laundry room…have a similar small space in our home. I will be using beadboard half up the walls, painting the upper half. A suggestion for your Laundry Hamper can….I’d drill several small holes (maybe in a pattern) at one or two places to allow air inside. Those containers smell after a bit and bacteria grow. Maybe do it on the lid and an inconspicuous place on the body of the hamper…Like the black/white/cream and the door being black.

Also love farmhouse look for a narrow bathroom & yours reminds me of the extra one only we have a small window where the door is in this picture plus have toilet & vanity with all pipes hooked upalong this tiny wall & a stackable washer /dryer near door so one can’t even go to bathroom in ours it’s so toght in that corner wrong place for a laundry room also they put in make shift linen closet on left side so it’s a disaster would love to rip out l. closet turn that opening sideways so goes out into our alcove a wasted room about 3 -31/2 feet of it could have been extended into a larger bathroom & laundry ws wondering what would you suggest for this hall way bathroom / laundry very confused / thanks Gina hope you have solution .

  63. Hello. I love Laundry Rooms. Yep , I’m in the minority I know, but I love doing laundry. I have a similar looking room. Why is your washer sitting one way and the dryer up against the front of the washer like that. Is it because you don’t have very much square footage here? Aren’t the appliances about the same measurements? I don’t have enough room for a “laundry bin”. I do have room across from the washer and dryer, that’s where my waterheater is, and I have a table that collects “junk”, and a bin under for rugs or whatever, and a catbox in the corner. It might be leaving since the cat is mostly outside anymore. I also have cupboards above the washer and dryer. Pretty handy, even if they are so tall, I can’t access them without a stool. ;( I’m grateful to have them.
    Love the colors and also the tin wall.

    • Hi Sydney,
      It’s because I live in a mobile home and the older ones (like mine) are set up that way. I have no idea why (maybe it’s easier to run the water lines?) But that’s how it was installed when built, so we just went with it instead of reconfiguring the water lines during our renovation.
